Welcome to the neighborhood!

A couple of other suggestions that I didn't see posted ...
  1. caffe valentino at Moyamensing Avenue and Wharton Street -- it's a great Italian byob.
  2. there is an Irish pub getting ready to open at Moyamensing Ave. and Reed Street. Heard from the owner it will probably open toward the end of this month.
Be sure to come to a Pennsport Civic Association meeting. Here's the website -- http://www.pennsportcivic.org/

This has really turned into a great thread! I'm really glad to hear from everyone and I'm really looking forward to coming to the neighborhood. My landlord also recommended both Valentino's and the gnocchi, and I could literally throw rocks at that place from my house, so I'm sure I'll stop in. Also, to clarify, by "shows" I guess I meant to say "concerts" (I just call them shows). But yeah I know about the Troc so more places like that and any bars and/or church halls where I could catch some local hardcore/hip hop/indie rock acts, things of that nature (I'm most def checking out the live jazz at Warmdaddy's. Thanks Jhenne!). Not so much "theater". While I'm certainly not opposed, I just thought I would clarify. I'm really glad to see other people getting as much out of this thread as I am. I look forward to more suggestions and will certainly share whatever I happen upon. Thanks again for all the great posts!

If things go according to plan, I should be moving in this weekend. So I'll see you guys around the way!

Outside your hood but perhaps closer than Red Hook as the crow flies is Benna's at 8th and Wharton. Sears is like a half block south of Wharton.

There will be a diversity festival at Goldstar Park 6th and Wharton coming up pretty soon, there is a mention in the Passyunk Square Meeting thread. There will be some nifty acts and a variety of ethnic foods for sale.

Connie's Rick Rack on 9th between Ellsworth and Washington has had some indie rock/punkish shows in the past. I think they are still going through licensing but are having some shows in the Fringe.

Gooey Louie's is quantity not quality. Massive sandwiches for mild prices. Definitely edible but far from Best Of or gourmet, but each sandwich is easy 2 meals and probably 3 or 4 for most mortals.

2 Street bars are fun on NYD but beware the New Year tax as can beer prices go through the roof, BYOB and once you've tanked up get 1 or 2 at the taprooms.

Default Pennsport Parking?

I was just wondering if anyone knew of either indoor parking or some kind of lot near Dickinson Square. I am looking to buy a home on the 1700 block of Orianna St (in between 4th and Moyamensing and Morris/Moore) and recently bought a new car, so I'd like to find parking if possible.

Welcome to the Hood.

A lot of great recommendations here (although I'm not the biggest fan of Valentino's here or in CC), but no one so far seems to have mentioned anything near Morris & Passyunk, like the Cantina, 1601 or the POPE, all of which are great bars (and 1601/Cantina also have great food). There are also a bunch of awesome coffee houses like Black & Brew, and new businesses coming in as well. I know its not Pennsport, but is just as close as QV and many of the other establishments mentioned.

Check out R5 Prouctions for the types of shows you seem to be into -- mosty indy rock & hip-hop held at the First Unitarian Church and the Starlight Lounge.

Pennsport itself doesn't really have a nightlife per se, but its a great neighborhood that has been and will keep on getting better.

alphatau: Double- (and Triple-) posting sucks. Most PB users read most of the topics -- no need to bomb the forum. And no -- there is no private parking in the immediate area. Keep your sweet ride close to your house (and not under 95) and you should be fine!
