Default The Anderson Monarchs

Did anyone read this story about the girls' soccer team based in Point Breeze? The team and coach sound pretty amazing:

That was really interesting. Thank you for sharing that. I wonder if there's some way to support their team or help them get funding?

I emailed the author requesting more information on how people can help out. I'll post any information I get. The thought of this team having next to no funding makes me feel a little ill.

I was really moved by this article also. I'd definitely be interested in organizing some sort of benefit (a concert? I'm in a band and have lots of friends who are as well) for the team. Jilly S, please post what info you get back from the author. Thanks!

I received an email back from the author. He's going to forward my email to the coach. If I don't here back within a week I'll dig a little more and try to get in touch with the coach directly.

Here's the information I received from Coach Stewart:

Steven Wells forwarded your message to me this morning. I'd be happy to speak with you about supporting the Anderson Monarchs Girls Soccer Club in whatever way you can. My number is 215-519-9227. For now contributions/checks have to be made to the the Philadelphia Youth Organization ("PYO") with a note that the donation is for the Anderson Monarchs Girls Soccer Program. (The address is below) I am vice president of PYO which is a Pennsylvania non profit with 501c3 tax deductible status from the IRS. I have spoken with the president of PYO who assures me that any donations for the girls soccer program will be used for that purpose. We recently started our own nonprofit corporation called Soccer Sisters, Inc. but our IRS application is not yet approved. By the fall, we should have this in place to better support the girls soccer program.

I have zero fundraising experience, but I'd be happy to help out if someone who knows what they're doing would be able/interested in put something together.
Thanks for keeping us posted, JillyS!
