I hadn't been on Phillyblog in a long while and missed this thread.
This is my daughter's soccer team and they are amazing to watch. The girls play all year long from outdoor to indoor season. They love to play and it's such a postive influence for them all. |

But either way, I agree the people responsible for vandalizing it are scummy.

I think the first article I posted talks specifically about this--the point is they do well against the top suburban teams despite the team's lack of financial resources. Hopefully with all of this publicity and support the budget has improved. Maybe urbansoccermom can give us an update??

My daughter plays on the team and I help manage the team finances. The team run mostly on player fees and donations. There have been donations, but they are not consistent. Besides that expenses increase as well due to travel (gas prices, etc). The more noteriety the girls get, the more invitations they get. The 501c3 application is moving along and as soon as we get approval, that will pave the way for corporate donations, etc.
The girls are oblivious to the financial situation, they just play and have fun. I guess they didn't get the memo. LOL. Their success is largely due to the tireless dedication and committment of our coaches. We have 5 indoor teams in the city league currently. Managing this plus practices is no small feat. urbansoccermom is right - they are really amazing to watch. |

These girls are definitely getting an early, hard lesson in the power of facing adversity and ignorance with grace and dignity.
