Default Places to eat in and around Passyunk

I recently took my family who were visiting for a walk along Passyunk, because I think it is such a neat street. They didn't want Mexican for lunch, so no Cantina, and all else we could find was Italian food. We ended up at Marra's, which is ok but the tables are old world small, I just wanted to know if anywhere else to go for food that isn't Mexican or Italian? It's pretty heavy stuff for lunch.

Can u guys give some suggestions so I have places in walking distance of Passyunk area for when out-of-towners come in?

Thanks!

There's a new coffee shop and cafe called "Black n Brew" which serves breakfast and lunch. It's just north of the musical fountain. All kinds of sandwiches, soups, salads, etc. Much needed in the area!

I think Roselena's is a good choice. They don't have a set menu. It's always changing, and I would put the food in the category of a more eclectic style, rather than grouping it with one ethic type-- It's really different. The decor is adorable, you kind of feel like you're eating in a dollhouse. And then they have the old time soda shop next door with great coffees.

South Philly Tap Room, 16th and Mifflin. Great menu, big beer list, great staff.

Personally, eating in a dollhouse-like environment would creep me out.

Yeah South Philly tap room is a good choice - i think the food there has improved and i noticed they made some menu changes. I love those barrel seats!

We looked at menu for Paradiso and it seemed hefty in price and food type for just a quick lunch. I think we were there at about 3pm or so - so it was after official lunching hours.

Ok i will look at Rosalena's menu - I did notice the decor. It reminds me of Astral Plane, which is a place that is soo quirky I actually sort of dislike all the mess and clutter, but yet somehow the food, service, and vibe is really great...so I am open to try the "dollhouse".

Will try Black n Brew too - I saw the post that it just opened and I agree that something like this was much needed.

Cool thanks much and any more suggestions are welcomed!

Oh what about the place on 10th Street - I think it's at 10th and Tasker and has a blackboard sign outside? I may have the intersection wrong - it's a block away from Dickinson post office. Anyone go there?

I think you are referring to "1601". It is mainly a bar but yes they serve lunch and dinner. Good, reasonably priced food and a cute bar with a nice little lounge area/ dining room.

Is that what that is? It looks very nice from outside - right next to Rosalena's. I definitely want to try that out!

A couple weeks ago my girlfriends and I were drinking at Cantina and there were these brat street kids running up and down Passyunk harassing everyone. They kept running up to the window where we were sitting and knocking on the glass and also banging the big wood door at Cantina open and shut (the little lookout part). When we left Cantina the soda shop had a Mr. and Mrs. Claus life size stuffed figures sitting on the bench outside and the brat kids changed them into an obscene sexual position. It was actually sort of funny and I took a picture of the Clauses, but I definitely felt the pain for those shop owners!

Oh you gotta try it, it's so cute in there... You can get everything from paninis to baked goods to interesting flavors of soda to coffees that they change all the time. I saw the Clauses (not having sex though).
