Default What is going on with the Snyder Construction?

I don't know if this has been asked before, but if it was, I'm sure I missed it! As I'm sure many of you know, Snyder Ave. has been closed for for about 9,784,329,748 years now. Recently they reduced the closure, but you still have to cut through the Shoprite and Target parking lots. What exactly are they doing here? Just curious.

They are making the drainage better is what I remembered hearing from my great great ancestors who have passed it down thru the centuries, haha.

Hahaha....

Oh, so they are routing it so that water drains into various basements around South Philly.

I was hoping you would say "They are building the 1st part of a subway that will go from the Snyder station down to Columbus Blvd. and then they will extend a line from Columbus Blvd. down to at least Spring Garden or so."
Hey, that would have been cool.

Yes, that would be cool, to see an expansion of the city's subway system. Although we're not as big as NYC, it seems the subway here is inadequate for the nations fifth largest city.

There's background on the Broad Street Line at http://world.nycsubway.org/us/phila/broadstreet.html that has an interesting bit of info about Snyder Ave. station...
"Additionally, there is an odd jog in the tunnel, as if it was once intended for the tracks to bypass the station; this is the location for an intended but never built spur under Passyunk Avenue (to probably the same areas served by Route 37). Snyder station opened September 18, 1938."
