People keep telling me mice are just another great part of city life. I don't want to believe but you guys are freaking me out. I have a dog now but maybe I should adopt a cat. Better safe than sorry.

Part of life? Maybe. A great part? No. Sure there are mice in homes throughout South Philly and the rest of the city. It doesn't mean you have to accept it. Lay some traps, even the humane type and get rid of them. Seal up any holes coming in from your neighbors or from the street or back yard. It may not be a 100% guarantee to keep them all out, but you can dramatically reduce, if not eliminate the mice population.

Happy mousing,

i hate to freak anyone out, but this sounds a lot like several stories i've heard (from friends in west philly), who had squirrels in their ceilings. they (the squirrels, not the friends) often become trapped in ceilings or floorboards and scamper around until they either die or you call an exterminator.

just keep an ear out. when you stop hearing things...well, you might want to call. and ask your neighbors if they've had similar problems.

Scratching in the ceiling/walls used to drive me fr*ggin crazy! Try cursing at the ceiling and smacking at it. Won't help, but you'll at least feel a little better . I don't live in that house anymore and I'm pretty sure the old lady that lived next to me is gone too. She had let her house go and I'm pretty sure the mice came from her. To this day, if I hear a scratching sound, I still cringe!

Default Cats and Mice

I heard that cats don't really chase and kill mice like they used to? I was thinking about it at one time.

Yes it true, Mice and Rats can get into the smallest thing. Even Sewer rats or (Sewie Rats) LOL can get into your basement.

*Some are bigger than the cats*
