I LOVE the houses there, across from that park around 4th and Tasker!! But when I looked into it (we're moving back to Philly as my handle implies), I found the houses were way too much for my budget, esp. in South Philly. I think they were something like 300K?! But yeah I love that area!

Try the small side streets around the Square. The 1600 S block of Lawrence street is a great example. You can still get houses for the low $100s and it is only a half a block off the square. Be careful, the houses at those prices need alot of work. Basically plan on gutting it. A fixed up house recently listed for $240,000 and sold in a couple of months.
