Thumbs up relax....

Georgia
Relax... Frustrated yes, A shame really, born in Northern Lib and raised in Feltonville, and will have to admit, spent a couple of weeks in Newton Bucks Co. So I have seen the "good" and "bad" side of things. Meaning, from what I see happening to "sowf" philly it's really a shame.
Now, as for leaving things in vehicles, yes there are several neighborhoods one can leave items in their vehicles and they're safe. True, you can't do it in all of them...
Moreover, as for just getting used to it, sorry but call me a "Negative Knucklehead" nothing has been corrected, the hookers are still roaming, the kids do their thing, now mind you only on the weekends but it's disturbing, btw, dog crap, I've seen only 3 people ever clean/pick up after their dogs.and of course the friggin' trash! It must be an inherent trait among citizens of "sowf" philly, for example I see a mother walking along opening a pack of butts, and there goes the wrapper flaoting along in the air, all the while the child following is opening an ice cream cone and bam! Drops it right on the curb, this is just how one can shake their head in amazement, not including the fact when a person gets into their vehicle to start the motor, is it a reflex action to dump the contents of their ashtray right on the street that not only they park but also live on? Yes, again the frustration rises to the top so to speak... The reason why is that I see "Sowf" philly as a nice, viable, dynamic, and of course close to center city neighborhood in which I have grown fond of... Now, Georgia on top of these rambling rants can you also help out with the parking situation too....:dancehal:

The trash thing drives me nuts. I constantly see people just walking down the street in this neighborhood just throwing whatever it is on the ground as they walk.....don't even think twice....alot of bottles, brown paper bags, etc. Even people sitting on their front steps doing it! Here is a simple solution: How about putting trash cans on the corners (just make sure they are bolted down somehow)? I walked up 20xx S. Norwood and Beechwood, and around Snyder and McKean...and both blocks have sooo much trash.

Personally, I think this neighborhood may be the next middle class suburb of Philly...seriously. Almost like a place for middle-income yuppies. It won't happen for 10 years but if the City's demographic patterns continue, it just may happen.

I couldn't agree more. We actually have one trash can on Morris and 17th that is chained upside down so it can't be used. There is often trash sitting on top of it.

West Philly has trash cans all over the place. Does anyone know how one might go about getting this done??

When did you last price real estate in this neighborhood, it's priced consideralbly different than 19th and Snyder.

Basically look south of washington, north of tasker, broad as your boundry to the west and 6th to the east. I, and a good amount of friends, have found some great places doing just this. In any case, I wouldn't step foot anywhere in SP west of broad....there's nothing there except dirty cocaine and thugs.

In what Philly neighborhood do the old timers not complain about how bad it is?

The way I see it, in 10 years, all of South Philly will be a middle-class mix of cultures as the city's downtown gentrifies. One can say that G-Ho will push South, the development East of Broad will push West, and Girard Estates will maintain what it is as long as the entire 'hood doesn't move to Washington Township and there you have it...that simple.....heck if you like the house buy it. If you can find a cheaper 2 bedroom at 2nd and Snyder instead of 19th, buy that.

I live several blocks from there so should reserve comment...

But instead I'll mention this is not the case. There was a scary incident around there several months ago. However, no one was hurt, several arrests were made and one of the "houses" involved has changed hands and I believe is now being rehabbed by a developer.

Residents of the area feel free to correct me if I have this wrong...

22nd & Carpenter or 17th & Snyder... If there's a bad bunch, bad things happen.
Now as for the trash...:explode: It would be nice to know the possibility of trash cans on corners, now if we can figure out how that can be done, the next step would be as to who will empty them...:what_is_:
