I'm a project manager for a real estate group that does all of its business, rental grade and retail/development in the confines of this lovely city. I live in "sowf" Philly, "sowf" of Snyder Ave, west of Broad, couple of blocks from the lovely 7-11 on the corner and the area I live in isn't the cleanest, you can't leave anything inside a vehicle, street zombies and hookers roaming all hours, every weekend the kids are hanging out drinking/drugging/etc, and of course the trash which is everywhere.
So, is the area "norf" of Snyder safe? I has been turning for the better, however at a glacial pace. Moreover, the distance of a couple of blocks make any particular neighborhood that much "safer?" My $0.02 is the area "norf" of Snyder has alot of improving to do, especially at night |

"Anywhere" west of Broad in SP is such a broad statement. Broad and Reed differs greatly from Broad and Oregon. |

OB2SP, I called hungry on that comment, prompting that retraction. If that was a joke, it wasn't funny.

Mericanwit, find me a part of this city where you can leave stuff in your car without the chance that someone might try to take it. Trash on the streets and sidewalks is a long standing problem throughout most of South Philly and many people and civic groups are continually working on it. Yes, there are hookers and shady dudes occasionally around the 7-11 on Broad, but there are hookers in Center City too, it's a city. Again, work is being done on this problem. As far as the kids go, I hear of packs of bored kids roaming the streets drinking, smoking and carrying on in Center City, Art Museum, Northern Liberties, just about everywhere else as well. If you ever attended one of our police community meeting you would know that the police are well aware of these kids and have dealt with them on several occasions and are really cracking down on them. The bigger problem seems to be that they have parents who just don't care what their kids do and what can you do about that?
Recently, in another thread you commented on these very same things, but said that there's nothing you can do but just ignore it all and get used to it. If you are so concerned about these problems or if positive change isn't going fast enough for you, why don't you get involved and do something about it? There's actually quite a bit you can do to help out and all of us that are volunteering our free time, picking up everyone else's trash, calling the police, writing to council people, joining townwatch, etc. really could use some more help and less armchair critics. |
