Default Room for Rent $600 Inc. All Util even Internet

$600 for the large master bedroom (15x18 aprox) This includes all utilities (Electric, Gas, Water, Cable & Internet) you would have full house privileges, basement for storage, washer & dryer and two kick ass roommates who are laid back and responsible.

The house is huge! 3 floors plus a basement for storage and washer and dryer are down there. 2 bathrooms, one has a really nice glass shower stall in it, the other has a full tub, with a separate alcove room just for the toilet. Kitchen is almost new, carpeting through out the house. Huge Living room/ Dining room area. A cute but small stone court yard in the back, big enough for a BBQ and table with chairs to spend cozy summer nights.

The neighborhood is rated B+ I'll be honest like every other Philly area, it has it's good blocks and bad blocks, this is a good block but two blocks one way it's not very pretty, two blocks the other way is Delaware Ave shopping centers (i.e. Target, ShopRite, the movie theater) and the highway 95 is a stones throw away. On street non permit parking is pretty plentiful too. (3rd and Dickinson St, 10 blocks south of South St. Bus routes 47, 57, 79, 29 & 64 you are also about 10 blocks from the Broad Street Line)

Your house mates: Two mid 20's females, one works in Non-Profit, the other is a design student and very creative, we are both very open-minded individuals and hope that you are too. Please be over 21.

This is a Non-Smoking, Pet free house. No cats or dogs.

We are queer, freak, artsy friendly folks, you need to be as well.

The lease is a month to month lease, so you would need first month and a security deposit (one months rent). Available IMMEDIATLEY.

Why do you have to be queer to rent this room?

I think these people could be liable for discrimination based on sexual orientation if they refuse to rent to someone who is straight.

I mean what if I said I would not rent to a someone who is gay? I'm sure I would get in trouble.

Anyone who has applied need a lawyer?

The way I read it is that you have to be queer friendly.

And anyway, in a sublet, you can rent to whomever you like and have whatever requirements you want. For example, you could specify you wanted a female roommate only. This is not discrimination and wouldn't be considered such in any court of law.

Perhaps CBD meant "queer" as in "unusual."

Oddly enough, while federal law doesn't prohibit housing discrimination based on orientation, Philadelphia does.

Quote:
Established in 1951 under the City Charter, the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations (PCHR) is the city agency that enforces civil rights laws and deals with all matters of intergroup conflict within the city.

PCHR's Compliance Division enforces the Philadelphia Fair Practices Ordinance. Discrimination is prohibited in employment, housing, public accommodations and the delivery of City services. In employment, it is illegal to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age over 40, sex, sexual orientation, disability, marital status. and gender identity. In housing, the bases are race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, physical disability, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, gender identity, the presence of children or an individual's source of income. In public accommodations and the delivery of City services, the bases are the same as employment except age is not covered in public accommodations. Individuals can also file retaliation complaints in employment and housing cases if they feel they have been retaliated against for either complaining about discriminatory practices or for having filed a discrimnation complaint.

Because it's not the landlord's policy? I wouldn't think it's illegal.

Totally novice question here: Are the laws different if you are renting a room in your house as opposed to an "independent" apartment unit? In other words, can someone like the orignal poster in fact be allowed to rent to whomever they want since they will be sharing living quarters?

In this case, I don't queer meant gay, rather, "eccentric."
