Quote from Kevin Bacon:

"The people I bumped shoulders with for years were the people I portrayed in film -- although 'Sleepers' was the first time I got to use the Philly accent -- and I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to offend anyone ..."

Haven't seen the movie in almost 10 years, but as I recall he's got it. Fairly ironic as the movie takes place in NYC. I guess it's only fair.

I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic there. But I really do believe that a local accent (Philly, or otherwise) adds character to one's personality.

There can be a point of diminishing returns (for all you Economics majors ), however. An accent shouldn't stop you from being professional

After living in mostly accent-less areas, it's kindof cool to hear the Philly Accent. The grammar slays me, though.

You's guys.

The only accent for Michigan is pronouncing "for" or "forget" as "fer" or "fergit".

I don't know, GMonkey, I think Michigan does in fact have an accent. It may not be as obvious as Philly, NY, or Boston, but it's there. It's not just Michigan, I think it's the upper Midwest in general. I can't really explain it, but it's definitely there.

People from Pittsburgh swear they don't have an accent either, but...

Dawntawn, Dawllar, Pawp

(that's downtown, dollar, pop)

New York says DAH-lah
Philly says DAH-lar
Pitt says DAW-lar
Boston says DAW-lah

I think Toni Collette had a good Philly accent in The Sixth Sense

Being from mid-Michigan myself I never really thought I had an accent, but after about a year and a half here I notice certain things I say sound almost Canadian. My girlfriend is from northern MI and I really notice her accent at times. I'd say the MI accent is to over annunciate everything and have a slight nasal tone.
