Anyone know where I can get a copy of the most recent Pennsport Civic Association meeting minutes? I believe they had a meeting last Wednesday (2/8/06), and I didn't see anything on their website. Thanks!!

So I got the latest minutes and noticed there was another meeting scheduled for the 27th. The words on that date read
Dickensen Square Park 7:00 p.m. Mt. Sinai Dev. Does anyone know what that means? I'd like to attend. Thanks!! |

How about if they forward the minutes here and we post
same every month? Then perhaps more Pennsport people will join in at PhillyBlog. Joely Quote:

Meeting Minutes General Membership Meeting Wednesday, February 8, 2006 Topics: Real Estate Taxes Mount Sinai Hospital Gambling David Glancey was unable to attend the meeting tonight due to personal issues. He will hopefully join us at our March 2006 meeting. We had a large group of residents from the area surrounding Mt. Sinai hospital – there is growing concern about the possibility of the hospital being converted into 228 condos and parking for 250 vehicles, there is also talk of 30 Single Family Dwellings being built on the outskirts of the project. The supposed developer is Polygon Partners, located in New York. They have not reached out to any local civic associations to talk but we are unsure if they have reached out to the local Councilman’s office, we will follow up with Councilman DiCicco’s office to see if there was contact made. We (the Pennsport Civic Association) committed to to the neighbors that we would support them in the negotiations with this project. No one is opposed to development at the hospital but they would like to be informed as to what is potentially going to go there. Gaming – There has not been much discussion with the local civic groups that would be directly affected by the development of slot parlors. We are invited to a meeting that will be hosted by Councilman Frank DiCicco at the end of the month and will present at the March meeting what we learn. We were informed by the Department of Rec that the pool at 2nd & Reed (Herron Playground) will not open this year, the pool is in poor condition and there is fear of a cave-in, the department is exploring the possibility of turning the area into a Sprayground (sprinkler park). There will be no pool or sprayground at the location this summer, but there will hopefully be something there by the summer of 2007. Neighbors raised concerns asked us to ask the Department of Rec if we could raise funds to have the pool revamped. We will look into. Hold-ups – there have been reports of 3 hold-ups at gun point in the last two weeks. It seems as though a group of men are in a car and one jumps out and holds the person up at gunpoint. No one has been hurt to date but just be aware of your surroundings. We were just informed that the assailants have been apprehended and are in custody. Registration for Baseball – EOM is currently accepting registration for all of the baseball/softball teams. Please call 215-271-1994 for further information. Furness High School – Parking – Residents please make sure that if you are parked in Furness schoolyard that your vehicle is removed prior to 7:30 a.m. Cars have been ticketed for being parked in there and several residents have been blocked in the schoolyard. This is an agreement that was negotiated with Furness so that the residents could park in the schoolyard in the evening. Applications for property tax/rent rebates are now available, if you received a refund last year a book will be sent to you directly. Please stop by the office if you need assistance in completing your application. LIHEAP has raised there annual income limits for eligibility, the maximum income for a Single Person is now at $14,355.00,.2 person household is $19,245. Check to see if you are eligible, this is a significant increase in income eligibility. A resident raised the question/concern that since Snyder Avenue at Swanson is currently dug up by the Water Department if it was a possibility that a Traffic Light could be installed. We will reach out to local Council and request a traffic light.

Thanks for posting this, it gives great insight into the neighborhood for those of us moving there. Sorry to hear about the pool situation, I always thought that was a nice place for the kids...
