I used to hang out at Doc's once in a while when I lived down there. Nothing wrong with the place. It's one of the nicer bars in South Philly. If you don't like his politics then don't go there. But you don't know the politics of the owners of every business you spend your money at anyway so what's the point? Pennsport's really a bedroom community - ie: you sleep there at night and conduct your business and fun elsewhere. If you want a nice place to dine or shop you're probably going to have to look someplace else. Still a nice place to live though.

There are a lot of places to go in Pennsport to have a drink or two or three...
I am born, raised and am raising my family in Pennsport and I can tell you first hand that most of the corner bars are open to anyone. Even Doc's. I am at the polar oppostite of Doc poltically but I still go into Doc's now and then to hang with friends or to have a drink. The guys who go there are, like Chief said, average joes . Example: Shamrock Pub at 2nd and Reed. I know a gut who moved into Pennsport from the burbs went into the Shamrock for a drink and now ten years later invited the whole staff to his son's wedding. The bars in Pennsport are filled with easy going people who go to bars for the same reason most do... to have a drink and relax. However, don't go to Doc's on a Firday or Staurday night (12-2 AM) if you don't like a young crowd, because form about 12 on it is a very young crowd. Use your own judgement and have a good time. As long as you don't act like your better then everyone else in the joint you will have a life long spot to have a drink, catch a game or, if you prefer, get **** faced. |

This thread is another example of yuppies moving into a neighborhood put not wanting to be a regular. They want to start their own yuppie enclave bar. Pathetic.

These are all the topics that they are involved in: Economic Justice and Global Fair Trade, Environmental Sustainability, Socially Responsible Business, Criminal Justice Reform, Celebrating Diversity, and Social Change through the Arts. If you ask me, they have an excellent business model. Don't get me wrong I am not attacking anyone, just wanted to set the facts straight. |
