Anyone live on this block? What is the deal with the pseudo "church" group that holds services in one of the houses on the block? I am not talking about the actual church that is on the block, The Lighthouse Temple or whatever. I am talking about the house that is a few doors down from that where people attend some sort of service a couple of times a week (sunday plus usually one other day) in the front 2nd floor room. The most irritating thing is that the "preacher" in there insists on yelling with an amplifier while the windows are open. It is really ridiculous. Now I could be crazy but is there even a need for an amplifier in a house of that size? I mean, I would imagine everyone is in one room the size of any ordinary area bedroom. I don't understand how people can be so inconsiderate. I feel REALLY bad for the houses attached on either side because it has to be out of control.
So has anyone witnessed this? And is there anything that can be done about it? Call the cops? would they even show up? Are they allowed to do this? Thanks! |

The noise ordinance doesn't take effect until 10 pm, I think. I get it mixed up with the curfew, which is at 10:30 pm, I'm thinking.
If this is a private home with lots of regular meetings, there could be an L&I complaint in there. What is the address? Go to L&I during working hours and pull the history of complaints to L&I on the property. In the basement of the municipal services building at JFK, which is at the NW corner diagonal from City Hall, the L&I office has a phone on the wall designated for the purpose of requesting the record of violations against a property. You need this to get a sense of what they are doing wrong that L&I takes seriously, such as fire code violations. If they are not up to date with the fire code for a large gathering, you could really be saving lives by getting the professionals to review what they need to do. That may just bring the church to say that it's time to move to a building that is designated for the purpose of holding large groups safely. Plenty of churches will rent a hall to up and coming congregations. There is an easy, safer way for them to worship. |
