It is a natural gas fired plant and it generates a signficant amount of the electricty we use in Philadelphia. Demolishing it and building a new plant somewhere else would be an enormous cost to both taxpayers and PECO customers. I think you would be getting a lot more sympathy if it hadn't been there before you moved on.

Substations are unfortunatly ugly but they are part of electricity generation and they cannot be removed or made smaller. Perhaps you could push PECO to brick up the substation like they did over on 15th and Spruce. I am still amazed that PECO ever agreed to build that building.

given how recently that plant was revamped I'd highly doubt it's going anywhere any time soon. the parking garage has some pretty loud and strange noises coming form it about once a month. not sure what that's all about if it makes ya feel better. Honestly, you hace to know you will have some quality of life issues when you move across from a power plant. it's like moving next to the train tracks and complaining about the trains.

I just drove by it this morning. There are a lot of things they can do to this structure. I think asking it to be converted or removed is pushing it, however, by just cleaning up the exterior, replacing the rusted chain link fencing with a high wall blocking the view of all the equipment from the street level, adding in grass and trees, I think would go ALONG way.

The actual building itself is pretty damn nice looking. Once the Naval home and JFK are closer to completion, you should get with Sosna and the condo developers to perhaps force Trigen to do just that.

Yep. Need some pushing on Trigen to green up the area, block some view with trees, and clean the sidewalks ... not too much $$$, and the place looks fine. (And I agree, on the street level the builiding looks fine, unfortuantely the smoke stacks on top look like hell, but there is not much you can do about that.

I have a very fond impression of the people at Trigen. My wife is a school teacher and she set up a field trip for her kids there. They toured the facilty and from what she told me the Trigen people were very, very enthusiastic about their visit and really made a fuss over them. Perhaps they would really appreciate more community involvement.
