Traffic and parking laws apply in South Philadelphia too, and it's about time it was aggressively enforced. Ticket and tow them!
Parking violations are generally not unsafe, they are merely a convenient way for cities to raise more money without directly taxing your income. That's why when your meter runs out you don't get points on your license and surcharges to your insurance. In situations where they really are potentially unsafe, such as around a school during class hours, the laws are enforced, even in South Philly. Other than those rare instances, with little to no popular support among the locals, you have about as much a chance of seeing god as getting parking laws rigorously enforced in s. philly.

We're talking about a place where many of the residents would rather have filthy, trash strewn streets than be obliged to move their cars once a week so the city can clean up after them!!! I'm afraid any change to the parking enforcement policy is always going to be a tough sell in SP. Alas.

Why don't those who want to have parking regulations strictly enforced have a rally on south Broad Street.

Just let me warn you that the last elected official who tried to do this(Mayor Dilworth) was literally chased out of a community meeting.

We are acting like this is a new problem. Like i said before, the issue has been around since the dawn of the car.

South Philly has this exemption I think becuase our politicians have had always more clout in government and a good portion of the Parking Authority comes from S Philly

Since when is letting the inmates run the aslyum a proper way to enforce the law and improve quality of life?

This issue needs to be addressed, and we elect public servants to lead and do what is right, not what is popular.

What difference does it make in your life if someone parks in the median on South Broad St? It's a big city. If you don't like South Philly, no one's forcing you to go there. We park our cars wherever we want and we like it that way. We like the trash too.

In my neighborhood there are many elderly people and also a few in wheelchairs. When I see a car parked in such a way that it blocks the "handicaped" ramp on the corner, I call 911 and the car usually gets ticketed.

I don't go out of my way to find offenders and I know that I live in South Philly and bit of this comes with the territory; but in my little corner of the neighborhood, there are a few people who now don't want to risk a ticket and find a more appropriate place to park.
