Default Handyman in South Philly

I have been in my house for about one year. I am ready to start some small projects. I need someone to do some caulking and grouting in my bathroom; check out my roof -- roll roofing membrane has minor seam failure and i need some uv protection (foil, gravel, paint, etc.). i would like someone to look at my gutters as well. in the future, i want to install some shelving in my livingroom.

i am not handy. i do not want to do the work myself.

i have had the hardest time getting a recommendation/referral for a local handyman. i have been told to check out the philly best of issue, but the "winner" is not in our area.

if anyone has a person they use on a regular basis PLEASE pass the name along.

Thanks.

I don't have anyone specific to recommend, however I have found that the South Philly Review is a great source for local contractors. You will find loads of ads for contractors of all types in the back pages of the review. Many of them will come to your home to give you a free quote as well.

Indeed, SPReview is good for contractor ads. I called many of them and all the people who came out to give estimates were very friendly. I was skeptical about the wide variety of suggestions that they gave me though, but that is another story.

One contractor suggested that I call the SPR advert line and ask them how long such and such a company had been running ads in the SPR and if there had been complaints etc. etc.

I never did call, but SPR is a good resource. These people know the area, they know the homes too. There is no shortage of strange rigs in local homes.

I discovered a full FOUR layers of drywall in one room. Thats like 3 inches of drywall.

There were huge screws, and metal brackets around the corners, it was a wall that divided one room into two, and some of the layers were just screwed into the others.

It was all wallpapered and actually looked pretty good.
