Default Starbucks, Broad & Jackson

Perhaps this has already been addressed, and if so, sorry, but . . .

I am thrilled that it is there, but how on earth did a Starbucks land at Broad and Jackson? That area wouldn't appear to meet the typical Starbucks demographic criteria. Did Fumo have something to do with it?

Anyone know?

Doctors from Methodist frequent that Starbucks, or so I hear. It does seem out of the way for a Starbucks, but then again, Starbucks are becoming so common that it's not that big of a deal.

love em or hate em, you have to marvel at their continued presence and ability to make a "difference" in a neighborhood just by being there.

when i saw the sbux ipo roadshow, many years ago, at the time, their number 1 and 2 volume stores were diagonally across the corner from each other in san fransciso-of all places. no cannibalization at all! and last year in london, i saw them everywhere. we are nowhere near saturated given the density of other cities around.

point of fact, lots of developers in other cities seek them out as a lead tenant-along with whole foods-for part of the commercial space in their mixed-use developments. might as well have a latte as you are figuring out how not to default on your "i-o" mortgage in the overpriced condo you bought..........

I am convinced Fumo's involved. There are plenty of hospitals - even downtown - with no Starbucks nearby!

To hell with the schools I'd rather have the bookstore. I still thought that the Ikea/Lowe's area was a shoe in to get a Borders. I love the Borders/Best Buy combo, I could spend a good half day at the two just looking around and call it an enjoyable time.

And it still seems that even with all the Starbucks popping up, there are plenty of home-grown coffeerias as well.

Don't tell Nancy at Benna's but at the Diversity Fest in Gold Star I tried one of them O Sandwich Iced Coffee's and it was pretty much like drinking coffee ice cream. No worries though my wife wants me to keep off the sugar and there has to be like at least a cup o' sugar in every cup of O ice coffee. At Benna's I can keep to the splenda. Plus the O thing is sugary sweet, but the Benna's Coffee has the crack that keeps me evened out.

It is a little out of the way and that is why there is only one
Starbucks' at that location as opposed to Starbucks' usual plan
of placing a Starbucks' at each of the four corners formed by
the intersection ......
