I had in the past been very anti- Starbucks, but I also used to live in Queens Village/ Bella Vista area and always went to Gleaners and Bennas. Now I live on 15th and Mifflin and there is no where real close. I feel horribly guilty, but I enjoy that particular Starbucks. It has a much less corporate feeling than any other Starbucks I've been to and the staff is really cool. Still I would love to have an independant coffee shop in the area. I feel like the two things my neighbohood is really lacking is a nice laundry mat and an indepaendant coffee shop- oh and a book store. Coffee shop wise there is cafe Italia on Snyder, but the man who owns it is rude you can't get anything but a cappucino and as a girl it's kind of hard to deal with getting leered at by a bunch of Tunisian men before my morning coffee.

I think there are two independent coffee houses at 15th and Passyunk/Snyder area. They are not hip and trendy places, but they are independet coffee shops nonetheless. If I remember correctly there is one right next to Texas Weiners that has mostly Italians guys in there (it looks like a scene out of Goodfellas).

I still like the coffee shop at 12 and dickinson. Those old men with their secret liquor cabinet and cigarettes just work for me, you know what I mean?
Plus its really good and cheap. Building is for sale though, so soon it may change, if someone buys it. |

And to that, I also add - I love the breakfast blend coffee. |
