Makes you wonder why Starbucks haasn't ventured further into less affluent areas.

All the same, this one seems like a UFO to me. To my knowledge it is the only Starbucks in a less affluent inner city neighborhood outside of Center City or University City. The only other ones in the city I know about are in Chestnut Hill, Manayunk. I suppose there may be a couple in the far reaches of the NE or Roxborough, though I'm not sure.

It is so outside the Starbucks norm for this region - they have been slow even to enter the Center City market - I think there must have been some special dealing to get them there.

Default starbucks

I had in the past been very anti- Starbucks, but I also used to live in Queens Village/ Bella Vista area and always went to Gleaners and Bennas. Now I live on 15th and Mifflin and there is no where real close. I feel horribly guilty, but I enjoy that particular Starbucks. It has a much less corporate feeling than any other Starbucks I've been to and the staff is really cool. Still I would love to have an independant coffee shop in the area. I feel like the two things my neighbohood is really lacking is a nice laundry mat and an indepaendant coffee shop- oh and a book store. Coffee shop wise there is cafe Italia on Snyder, but the man who owns it is rude you can't get anything but a cappucino and as a girl it's kind of hard to deal with getting leered at by a bunch of Tunisian men before my morning coffee.

I think there are two independent coffee houses at 15th and Passyunk/Snyder area. They are not hip and trendy places, but they are independet coffee shops nonetheless. If I remember correctly there is one right next to Texas Weiners that has mostly Italians guys in there (it looks like a scene out of Goodfellas).

If they cut out the talk about the TALL and
the small or whatever they call it, then maybe I can go back........

Coffee can never be "TALL."

The one next to Texas Weiners is Cafe Italia- you can only get a cappucino and the guys in there leer and catcall when you walk in. Where is the other in the area?

I still like the coffee shop at 12 and dickinson. Those old men with their secret liquor cabinet and cigarettes just work for me, you know what I mean?

Plus its really good and cheap. Building is for sale though, so soon it may change, if someone buys it.

How many times will I have to go there before I can get a shot of whiskey?

Just to add, I work in Plymouth Meeting, and we have two Starbucks and a Barnes & Noble selling Starbucks close enough that I can make it there and back within a 15 minute drive... not exactly corner to corner, but close enough to notice.

And to that, I also add - I love the breakfast blend coffee.
