If you're in to bike riding, you should definately ride through Fairmount park, starting near the Art Museum - you'll pass some lovely sites at the same time.
I love Rittenhouse square. Some other senic city areas are Washington Square or Antique Row. For real flavor and good food, check out the Italian Market (in addition to Reading Terminal). There are so many good places, it's really hard to name just a few. Also, if he's not crazy about city city, you might show him some of the slightly less city neighborhoods like Manayunk or Chestnut Hill. Plenty of people on this blog live in places like Mt Airy, too. You might visit some of the neighborhood sites on the blog for more info. Also, Chicago, though fabulous, is a lot further away from DC than Philly. If he's worried about not knowing people in a new place, at least here, you're only a short train ride away from visiting old friends when you wish. Enjoy your visit and good luck! |

Yeah, there is jazz and there is jazz. My sister thinks Kenny G is jazz, and DC's "smooth jazz" station plays Sade. We tend to prefer classic horn and piano-led stuff, although my husband will also listen to guitar-led stuff, which I tend not to like. In recent days we've seen McCoy Tyner and Joshua Redman.
I notice that World Cafe Live has some kind of blues festival the weekend we are coming, so that could be a plan. |

i havent read many of your posts, so im not sure your age, but you may find it at least interesting to spend a friday night in Old City as it can be quite an experience. much to my dismay, it feels like it is rapidly becoming a Bourbon Street-style area, where there are so many people on the sidewalks, bustling between bars, lounges, restaurants and clubs that you almost feel overwhelmed. but the area is very lively and if you enjoy a bit of a chic nightlife, celebrity spotting, and people watching this is the place in philly. if none of this sounds like your husbands cup of tea then...
if you're gonna do Steven Starr, i would recommend Buddakan over Morimotos, but either way i would make reservations in advance. and if the eagles are playing that weekend, go to a sports bar for lunch, and witness some good ol' civic pride. |

I also second the recommendation to walk around Society Hill. It's so beautiful. And Washington Park, while not quite as nice as Rittenhouse, is pretty special too. Just wandering the streets and finding little hidden parks or great homes is fun. |

Sadly, preggy me will be doing no drinking
![]() We are in our 30's. We will probably stroll around Old City- while we won't be partying, sounds like we should look at it at least. My husband would probably be into watching an Eagles game, especially if it is in a bar. I will go anywhere there are nachos. |
