Joel,

Thank you for your interest. FYI the case mentioned has
been continued and is on the BVTW meeting agenda for
the upcoming week. Feel free to go to the contact us
section of the website to be added to our email list (the
main forum we use to notify the community of crime,
zoning, and other neighborhood issues).

You will also find information on volunteering and the
zoning protocols which provide details on how we conduct
meetings.

Excerpts from Bella Vista Town Watch website:

http://www.bvtw.org/documents/BVTW_Zoning_Protocols.pdf

excerpt:

Meeting Notice

Meeting posters stating the addresses of application sites, the requested variances, and the
date, time and place of the meeting will be posted in the vicinity of each application site.
Special effort will be made to ensure that meeting is prominently posted in locations that
could be affected most by the variance (e.g., on small street behind application site where
rear addition is proposed). In addition, the same meeting information will be sent to all
members of the BVTW email list (which includes zoning chairs from adjacent
neighborhood groups).

Individual residents, including those with a specific viewpoint on a case, are not to be
discouraged from asking their neighbors to attend; however, BVTW will not solicit
attendance based on a viewpoint.

Applicants must also post the official ZBA hearing notice (a big orange sticker) at the
property at least 12 days before the ZBA hearing.

****************

MY COMMENTS FOLLOW:

The middle paragraph is key. This is what usually happens
when a developer wants to "block sunlight" by obtaining
a needed variance due to "open space requirements."
The neighbors on either side of course have a legitimate beef.

Their yards and their back porches will be in shadows.

So they strong-arm fifty neighbors and together they
all come out to do a number on the proposed plan.
Bella Vista has seen this happen and they wisely comment on it.

POINT TWO:

OK, here it is at 2pm on Wed, June 8. All fifty lawyers
plus clients are packed in a room at 1515 Arch St. In
waltzes the committee and they ask for anyone who
requests a continuance to step forward. They find out
why and then continue the case. The Delexe Bean, I
mean the Eduated Bean was continued. Until when? Who knows.

The rest of the lawyers sit there for maybe two hours ......
well the taxi meter is running so who cares anyway? You
may think the room is emptying out as cases are heard.
No weay. By 3:30p another fifty lawyers and/or clients
are fox-trotting in.

So it goes.

Don't those guys know about cell phones?

Why can't the lawyer, stay in his office and do some
WORK on someone else's dime and then buzz the dude
15 minutes before you need him.

Ahhhhh, zoning.

Well, not so fast here ......

To Geoff's credit, at least the Passyunk Square Civic Association
is diligent about printing notices and stapling them to telephone
poles and to the building site adjacent to the ZBA orange placard.

With these other guys its anyone's guess what is going on!

Is he in cahoots with Geoff? Does everyone want my help with
planting trees? Who do I look like? Johnny Appleseed or someone?

Dear Board,

Thank you so much for your kind assistance in notifying me that
the posted Zoning Board of Appeal hearing is postponed. However,
you neglected to inform me of when where and what time your
board will be meeting to pass judgement on the project.

Its an electronic world. Why must people beg for information?
Please see the image for your "ZONING" page. There are no details.

Joel- even if someone wanted to follow your travails at the ZBA they would be confused by your presentation here. Is there anyone you can ask if they understand what you are posting before you hit the send button?

For the rest of us yo really need to try and make these posts a little clearer if you want us to follow this. Try something like this.

"I am following the zoning issues of this business. They have run into these issues. I don't think the issues are entirely fair for this reason. This neighborhood group says their involvement in zoning issues is this - but I don't think they are living up to the standards of their involvement they est out here."

Its completely confusing when you are quoting someone, when you are inserting commentary and when you are aguing a point in the last 3 posts.
I recomend going slow and imagining that the reader is someone who has no prior knowledge of what you are going to talk about when you post. In general it is impossible to be too organized in your presentation on something technical like this.

Thanks!

I'll amend the last post to read,

I am following the zoning issues of this business. They have run into
these issues. I don't think the issues are entirely fair for this reason.
This neighborhood group says their involvement in zoning issues is this
- but I don't think they are living up to the standards of their involvement
they est out here."

Joel obviously I meant for you to stick in the specifics of the issue you are discussing. My post was just a step-by-step model you might use to organize your post.

Please understand I am just trying to give you some constructive advice here. I am curious and want to better understand your concerns here. I can't make sense of your first 3 posts.

Joel,

Were you in San Franscisco in the late 60's/early 70's?

Chronological order

(in this case from the bottom post reading upwards).

1. An orange ZBA placard announced a hearing for 701 S. 7th St.

2. I posted notice of same right here at PhillyBlog (bottom post).

3. Nathan Snyder told me that the meeting is postponed until sometime.

4. Nathan said the Bella Vista group is going to meet about this
sometime/someplace/somewhere ... over the rainbow .......

5. I am wondering why he will not tell anyone the details?
Upfront and direct.

By contrast at least Geoff does notify the community, through
placards on telephone poles. Now if they posted meeting dates
and agendas on PhllyBlog.com then I would really be impressed.
