Hi all -- fresh from signing a lease on a great apt in QV. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any gyms in the area of 2nd and Bainbridge and, if so, what the approx. monthly fee is?

I use sweat, during the day it's sweet at night it's filled with sweaty chuds jogging to a live DJ. If that's your thing go for it.

Well, I always thought it referred to "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers," a la the cheesy horror movie of the same name ("C.H.U.D.")...but I suspect that's not the meaning in this context. At least I hope not. If it is, I advise against this club most strenuously.

Sweat is about $40/month through GlobalFit. I agree that it can get a little annoying in the evenings (headphones help), but if you can drag yourself there in the morning, it's great. I've never had to wait for equipment, and they have some decent classes.

I used to belong to Pennsport and found it a little dirty and rundown. That was a few years ago, though, so it may have improved.

Yes pennsport has changed it's even more dirty and rundown I believe. There is a sun deck I hear! I can only imagine what drags itself off the street up there in the summer. Lots of bears in thongs I imagine...you better stick with sweat.

Pennsport tried to revamp itself after the mass exodus of customers to sweat when it opened. They failed miserably. There's very little equipment, a lot of staff turnover re: instructors (they get gipped regularly), and in general the place is a pit. On the upside, there are some super cool people who go there and it's very neighborhoody.

I love sweat. It's open, clean, etc. I never really have to wait for equipment even at 6:00 p.m. The hard core weightlifting guys are not obnoxious (e.g. don't slam weights on the ground or scream while lifting). The bathrooms are clean. Classes are pretty good.
