Default Robert Hazard - Rest In Peace

Robert Hazard passed on yesterday, after surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Robert was one of the many colorful threads that together weaved the unique fabric of South Street life back in the early 80s.

He will be missed.

For a classic flashback - here's Robert @ JC Dobbs (when the D still worked on stage!) - - it was quite a night and I'm in there SOMEWHERE!

That's why I heard Escalator of Life and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun back-to-back on XPN earlier. Wow.

Default Robert Hazard has died

The 80's generation knows who I mean.

"Escalator of Life" was such a bad song but I loved it at the time.

His death was "unexpected". What a shame.

Default Robert Hazard died

I was one of those kids who went to any Robert Hazard show that I could. I used to think that he was as close to cool as we get around here. Seeing him at the Academy of Music with an orchestral background was pure magic in those early years. England had the New Wave and the emergence of punk....New York had the CBGB crowd... but Philadelphia was dominated by a strange guy in a thin leather tie and a tuxedo jacket who sang about JC Dobbs and Escalators of Life. He wasn't for everyone, but the music was innocent and fun. I'm sad today because it reminds me that I'm getting old. Hazard was a strange act, no doubt, and some might have found him too poppy at the time.....for me, he was David Bowie with a Philadelphia accent. I hate to admit it, but in college...I wore a tie just like his. It was a Change Reaction of sorts. But then again, I'm still not sure I know what that means.

Robert Hazard died last night. So did a little bit of our Philly past when the music was just about fun. He wasn't the greatest, but he was ours .... and now a little bit of an innocent memory has drifted away. I wonder if any of you out there remember this guy too.

Wow. I heard this on the news last night. An eerie coincidence for me: I had just finished seeing John Hiatt perform last night, and his performance reminded me of a Robert Hazard concert I had seen about a year ago. That was the first time I had thought of Hazard since I saw him perform at the World Cafe, so imagine my surprise when I find out a few hours later that he had died.
I didn't know much about Hazard, when I decided to see him. I had seen a clip on TV of him performing one of his songs: it had more of a roots-Americana feel to it.

Well said Count , even though I'm upset over the over abundance of posts on his death at least it isn't slandered by adding air pollution to the mix.

I liked Robert Hazard, although I must admit that I really didn't know that many songs of his. He was a Philly Music Icon from the '80's though. What is kind of errie is I was thinking about work and everything I had to do when all of a sudden I started humming "Escaltor of Life", then this morning I hear about his death. Hope it was a coincidence and that I'm not responsible for the death of Elvis, Jim Morrison, Jim Croce, etc.
