Its to control the farmers, and nothing more. Otherwise they would show up earlier and earlier to sell their stuff and get out quick. Having exact hours that they are contracted to uphold ensures that the market runs fully during the prescribed hours and that when people show up between 10am-2pm, its still going on.

Nah at $4-5 a pound there would be heirloom tomatoes a plenty left for ya to buy. I think the have to wait till 10 rule is stupid as well. They should have a no setting up till 9 rule if they don't want a race to 7 AM.
We went over the other week at 9:30 to grab stuff to take down the shore with us and of course were hit with the no selling till 10 rule. I found one of the Farmer's Rock guys and said I know rules are rules but I thought it was stupid that I couldn't buy local produce to import into Jersey unless I wanted to delay my departure by 30 minutes. Now for some that may seem silly but we wanted to be on the sand well before noon so off we went. The guy sorta indicated that if I told him what we wanted rules could be bended, but we had already strapped our daughter back in the car seat so I told him we would be back the next weekend but just wanted to let him know that holding things up to protect the slow farmers was less than ideal. We stopped at the Red and Green Top Markets on the way down and they were highly disappointing. |

I actually appreciate it, though if you don't know the timing it can be irritating. But you want a chance to get to the stuff when everything's there and they haven't started to run out of supplies. It's really a great selection of food. We're loving shopping there. Come all the way over from Fairmount every week to do so.
