Come on crk, mrs. alesis will be home soon and I must attend dinner. Oh, I get it-you are not responding because its more of your made up sh&t, kind of like your misinterpretation of H-girl's perspective that the crime report isn't that bad. Trying too hard to get into arguments-and looking like a complete ass in the process.

Not bad for a three-week period, and even some arrests effected.

I have to agree with the others who think it is bad. Look at it from the perspective of probabilities and maybe you can help me out with some more data. In a three week period, there were five robberies of the knock down, or brandish deadly weapon variety. In other words, unpleasant, first person you are there in the flesh experiences.

My recollection (which is very hazy and probably not right) is that there are something like between 6,000 and 10,000 households in BV. If that's the case, you've got a roughly 1 in 1,000 chance of someone in your household being robbed by either being knocked down or threatened with a deadly weapon. Every month. Annualized that would be a roughly 1 in 100 chance. That's bad.

1 in 1,000? I'll take those chances. Oh, wait, never mind, I already do.

You know, some people think I am harsh, because I am direct and write my mind, in a matter of speaking. I don't candy-coat things the way their mommies and kindergarten teachers did for them. So be it. I also don't judge people's lifestyles, where they choose to live, what they drive, whether they drive or walk, and any number of things. But, look at some of these crimes. I hesitated to point them out earlier, but will now. Some of these are preventable. Theft FROM auto? Take your crap out of the car--don't leave valuable items such as GPS units and laptops, etc, visible. Put them away! How many people walk around talking on cell phones or listening to iPods with earbuds in? What have they just done to themselves? Answer, put a big bullseye on their backs. Which leaves them vulnerable to attack. Held up at point of knife vs. actually being knifed? I will take the former over the latter any time, and will do what I need to in order to prevent that from happening in the first place if at all possible.

You are not taking into account that not all of the victims were BV residents. The BV population does expand slighlty with tourist or visitors. I am on vacation, so I can't check to see how many of the listed crimes were committed on visitors as compared to residents. But I think your numbers are off. BV is a rather safe area and your chance of being a victim is variable.

Also the crimes that are committed in the area, are not all committed by BV criminals. Off the top of my head, I know that many of the GPS theft arrests that were made, the suspects did not live in the BV area. Nor South Philly for that matter. The GPS thieves came into the area because the fishing was good. People left them in their car.

For the summer these are very low numbers.

The "odds" being thrown around are a bit dramatic-unless random considers himself to be a girl that walks towards the projects at 3am.

If you look at the robberies, two on 6th Street and three on 9th Street (middle of the District), the project really has no bearing. Unless of course one believes that the suspects live in the projects.

Wow, you're right, what a great advertisement for the neighborhood. A lady gets punched in the face, another knocked down. Two shoplifters threaten to pull a gun. Here's the new BV slogan: move here, at least nobody got shot this week.

Cheese and rice people. Want to whine about a few words that hospitalitygirl made about a report that SHE provided YOU-oh that's right, you people who care so much didn't provide the information.

Here's more information you failed to provide as of last count. Philadelphia's latest annual statistics show that we're used to:
-about 400 murders a year
-about 1,000 rapes a year
-about 11,000 robberies a year
-about 11,000 Ag. Assaults a year
-over 11,000 Burglaries a year
-nearly 40,000 cases of theft a year

So, take each one of those numbers, divide them by the 52 weeks in a year, then multiply them by the 3 weeks represented by H-girl's statistics. Can't do that?

OK, here you go:
-about 23 murders every 3 weeks
-about 57 rapes every 3 weeks
-about 635 robberies, ag. assaults, and burglaries each, every 3 weeks
-about 2,300 thefts every 3 weeks

Now, if you don't understand the term "not that bad" for summertime, which is typically our worst time for criminal offenses, you are forever bound to the confines of stupidity.

Ugh. Thank you Hospitality Girl for posting the crime stats. I would pick BV's crime level over most places in the city.

For everyone who are "complaining", feel free to move out to Lansdale or somewhere suburban. I am sure you can feel safe there.

And if you don't actually live in BV, get the heck out of the forum.

Arrest made in shooting of W. Phila. girl

By Sam Wood
INQUIRER STAFF WRITER
Police have arrested a man in the shootings last night of three people, including a 10-year-old girl, in West Philadelphia. Gunfire erupted at 8:40 p.m. near the 5300 block of Chestnut Street following an altercation between two groups of men, police said.
The girl was playing in front of her home on Ruby Street when the gunman, who has not been named by police, fired eight shots. One of the bullets struck the youngster in the calf. Two men, ages 22 and 23, were hit in the legs.
The girl was rushed to Children's Hospital and the men were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where they were in stable condition this morning, police said.
Police did not know if the two wounded men were connected with the initial fight. The girl is not related to them, police said.

I will take my chances here.
