Kittens that were born this past spring due to un-neutered/spayed strays will be dying by the bucket load right about now as resources become scarce and their mothers kick them out of the litter/leave them alone.

Something as innocuous as a puddle in the street may contain enough contaminants (anti-freeze for example) to kill them.

Dead cats are a sad side effect of unbridled breeding. At least these two poor things won't grow up and suffer at the hands of humans who may not be so kind, or add to the already booming population. It's a sad epitaph to leave, but true.

so, my friend was coming home from the riverview (theather, not projects!) and saw a dead kitten in the street with it's sibling sitting next to it crying.

just in time for the hot part of summer!

Now I can usually find comedy in every thread but I am at a loss here. Anyone got any good dead kitten jokes?

You're killing me! How sad. What did you do?

My older DD found a robin fledgling on the sidewalk yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, she brought it home when she couldn't figure out where he came from. Fortunately (for the bird), a little water from a dropper perked him right up, but he can't fly yet. He's going to the Schuylkill Center in a few minutes, and DD will be spraying and bleaching the back patio for mites.

Was it a broken wing?

A friend of mine found a dead kitten a week ago, as well. It could have been poison, the heat, or even distemper (panleukopenia) which is running rampant this year.

It's that time of year, when irresponsible owners everywhere let their cats outside to get pregnant and have kittens, and when feral cats (the product of those irresponsible owner's cats) have yet more kittens.

No, the bird seems healthy, except for the mites. He just can't fly, yet. Seems like he's about to. We don't know how or have the time to take care of him (it's also against the law to keep wildlife, not that I really want to), so off to Schuylkill Center he goes.

I nursed a fledgling back to health overnight once when I was in grad school and then took him to the vet school (they give the animals to grad students to take care of). I think he might have had a little bird concussion. He barely moved and let me pick him up and put him in a box with a crate on top to protect him. By morning he was flapping his wings, etc., but not yet flying. They said he would be fine.

People with cats be alert, and if anyone knows anything about this, please respond to this thread.
