Default A little help from some friends

Hi Guys and Dolls of the Village.

I was hoping one or two of you could help me some information. I have been trying to find information on where to learn information on section 8 landloard information and/or applications for the city of Philadelphia. I have searched the phillygov site and wasnt able to obtain anything but errors..Surprise. Serviously, if anyone has any information and or any leads on where i can obtain such information; it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Actually, no property has been purchased yet but we are interested in an areas in SP that have alot people who are in need of homes to rent. I wanted to see what it entailed to Section 8 a home. I know there are horror stories but in some case its people that cant buy and need to rent due to the economy.

I wanted to read up on any information on the subject before deciding. adahh That was a stupid statement; who wouldnt want the details first...

sorry, I misunderstood.

I had section 8 places before elsewhere and it was a nightmare. Impossible to evict them, especially if they have kids.

In philadelphia its pretty easy to get decent tenants these days since a lot of working people are getting pushed out of their apartments due to rising prices. Many are moving to s. philly and fishtown where affordable rents can still be found.

Alesis implying that Section 8 residents can be trouble makers?

They should probably try and rent normally first, rather than latching onto the government's teat.

And if they can't rent normally they should try renting without a 30k Car Lease, 20's, DishTV, and 17 kids.

I second this, there are a ton of hard working upwardly mobile people in Philly looking for a decent rental. Just do a simple credit background check and get income verification (ie paystubs) and you should be good to go. If you have a nice clean and well kept property, you should have no problem finding good, responsible tenants who will pay their rent on time. We had section 8 neighbors for a while at an old address across the street and all they did was drink outside at all hours and make noise while 4-10 screaming children (it was hard to tell how many) were left alone inside to do godknowswhat. Scary. If it's just about the money, do some research on how to find a good tenant. Then you wont have to worry about getting paid, and it's likely that the person/s will take better care of your investment. Ps. The neighbors will like you better.

It's not called Section 8 any longer, and I think Alexis asked an obvious and fair question based upon previous threads here regarding social services and the coincidence that many recipients are problem neighbors and headache tenants. It's unfortunate that these particular parasites keep the stereotype alive and that those really in need of help carry this stigma with them while they get on with the business of living (the elderly and mentally handicapped come to mind).

Section 8 decimates surrounding properties.

it does.

Don't expect a warm welcome if you are an owner renting to Section 8 or "scattered sites"
