Oh i agree it was a fair question but I belive Alesis has been known to make posts arguing with people who make that assumption, saying just cause its section 8 doesn't mean they are criminals/troublemakers. Though i could be confusing it with someone else. Point is.. Section 8 and other goverment handouts are generally abused and do more harm than good.

Thank you for putting it nicely and not going off on the subject. Alesi just stated the obvious which shouldnt have started a bash blog..
I am not a polyanna and do realize that there are people that abuse the system but there are people who actually need the system to work for them in a good way . I am not married to the idea of section 8 or whatever it called now. My concern was to obtain information not start a fued. Last edited by loni : 07-16-2008 at 02:00 PM. |

I also agree that being a Section 8 landlord would be a headache. After all, how do you ensure you're getting a family in your property that will be a good tenant and good neighbor. I also have to say that the house next door to me is for sale (a 2-family), and I would protest vehemently if I heard that the new owner bought it for Section 8 purposes. It's a shame that what could have been a wonderful program has morphed into a dirty word. |

I was somewhat taken aback when I first read loni's post. Section 8 housing has a bad rep in SoPhilly. Why not try buying something in QV or SH and renting it out Section 8.
![]() Our block has had 3 Section 8 houses over the years. They were nothing but trouble. The occupants did not maintain the sidewalk trash/litter, regular police visits and general disturbances. The landlords were no better. They did not maintain the houses. But now we have houses owned by landlords in NYC and NJ. These few houses are a blight on the block still. Again, neglected houses but fortunately the occupants are decent and friendly. I wonder how the occupants of Section 8 housing are monitored. I know that the houses we had seemed to have different people moving in and out all the time. Please loni, don't buy on my block. |

Loni, the system does have its benefits for the landlord, but it is a very arduous task to deal with at times. Personally, I wouldn't want the hassle anymore, but if you do just make sure that you are fully versed on the various requirements and paperwork in case you need future compensation from the government for repairs, etc.[/quote]
Alesi, thank you and the others for you input with the question at hand. When I posted my inquiry I only want simple information and maybe some insite but not a all out war on Section 8, 9 or 10. I appreciate eveyone that was adult enought to place their experience and advice whether it be good or bad. To the others who just like to type and ramble. Everyone is entitled to opinions but they seem to go off track and get out of control. |

![]() I am sorry you were taken aback by my request. I would love to buy and rent in QV or SH but the funds arent there. Again, i am not married to section 8. I had my doubts and after reading some material I am siding with just buying and renting in SP. Lets be realistic, renters can be a nightmare too, i have had them and have seen them. Thanks |
