Hi guys! I'm coming to Philadelphia soon, and from what I've read most people say that Bella Vista is one of the nicest, safests neighborhoods. I'm looking at a place around 10th, about a block above Washington, and I was wondering if anyone has advice about the safety of that area, as well as walking down Washington to get to Broad. Any thoughts?
Thanks! |

lot of people of lower socioeconomic status will be nearby at night. However, the overwhelming majority of them won't be out to cause you any harm.

10th and Carpenter (about a block above Washington) is a great corner - long time locals, as well as a fair amount of young professionals and some hipsters. Plus, you're a block from the Italian Market and close to a host of other neighborhood staples. If you were walking to Broad, though, it's a lot prettier to take Christian over rather than Broad -- not really even a safety issue, just a "I like to walk under trees instead of warehouses" thing.
Bella Vista is safe, but still a city neighborhood. Be alert, try to avoid walking home alone late at night, call a cab if you're scared, etc., and you'll be happy with your location! |

Edit: Also for those inquring don't get the wrong idea, the neighborhood is safe. Alesis & Co just like to pretend its not the criminals fault they commit crimes. Last edited by crk : 07-14-2008 at 04:14 PM. |

robberies tend to be perpetrated by people in lower socioeconomic classes. You don't exactly see people who make 100k walking around sticking people up for iPods.
