Default Another shooting in the projects

I just drove down 4th street and Christian is closed between 4th and 5th. Apparently another shooting and, from what I heard, a death. The NBC10 van was showing up so it should hit the news tonight. What a wonderful, area that is......

I saw the news van turn down 4th from Christian earlier today and some very somber looking people standing by the funeral home (no funeral actually in progress from what I could tell). I assumed someone had been hurt...

Another shooting down there?
I bet it wasn't some old Italian woman fired up over her neighbor stealing her spaghetti recipe! How much you wanna bet!

Tear.Them.Down.

Seriously, what has to be done to get rid of this problem? From what i can tell, having moved here rather recently people in the area are either:
A) under the impression that this is normal city activity and is to be expected
or B) Completely fed up with the blatant drug abuse and outright violence that is obviously NOT contained to just the two blocks on Christian st regardless of wether or not the perpetrators reside there.

I happen to be of the "B" camp, and having lived in other cities including DC and San Francisco where there are Public Housing buildings integrated into affluent areas I can safely say (then again what is safe here anyways?) that this ridiculousness is not tolerated in other big cities. What do we have to do to get the situation to be taken seriously? How many people have to be maimed? How many generations of families need to live in that **** hole until we realized that it is breeding crime and it endangers more than just the unfortunate who have to live there?

We MUST DO something.

That is my rant for this afternoon. feel free to rip me apart for it, I am seriously beyond words with how much this neighborhood continues to astonish me. So nice yet so ugly.

Uh, the projects (high rise towers, two of which were demolished) were there before anyone started calling the neighborhood "Bella Vista"; basically you all moved in next to it and are now complaining that it's a problem.

It reminds me of the old joke, the one with the punchline: "Look, lady, you knew I was a rattlesnake when you took me home!"

I hear you but it doesn't make it right or acceptable.

By the way, I don't live adjacent to this sh**h*le and I am far enough away that I am not don't know what is up there unless I'm driving by. Demolishing the towers was also part of the plan to make it less of a sh**h*le there. It did make it better but there is still a long way to go.
