i have ben living here or four years and I hate it here. I moved in because I was under the inpression that the problems that plagued the complex were ended by the revitilization. That was wrong. There is an onslaught of violence, drugs, and criminal activity daily. My house has been hit by gun fire and the any loud boom causes by child to automaticly duck. Children curfews are not inforced. The wallsare so thin you can hear all of your neighbors activity and complaints of loud disturbances go ignored. If is not safe for anyone raising children to reside there and not safe for any one. The places are infested with rodents which make it embarassing to host guess not know when, if or how many rodent sitings there may be. I am in the process of moving out of the complex, the sensible rent rates do not balance out for he cons of the establishment. I absolutely do not recommend these apartmens.

I'm presently a tenant at courtyard apt.riverview and I hate it there. I'm trying to get information an how to transfer to another site as we speak. I don't feel safe there, I fear for my twelve year old daughter. The drug activity there is out of hand. The grounds are a mess, I have mice running through the walls and ceiling. The management department knows about the problems with drugs and rodents, but I don't see them doing anything about it. I haven't had a renewed lease sense 2001 or 2002, eventhough I have been recertified by management, they never complete the recertification process for any tenants tht I know of, so my rent has not been determined.

Maybe our arduous detective forgot this one in their fair and balanced reporting:
Home is what you make of it!

Although I am not from the South Philadelphia area to have known the former condition of Riverview, I must say that I like the area very much. However, I feel that home, in this case, the Riverview is what you make of it. It is my belief and personal experience that Riverview is a stepping stone with many incentives to better yourself and your family physically & economically. I have been able to emotionally provide for my family, attend college and work part-time as I continue to reach my goals of becoming a nurse. Over the years it has been the goal of managment to assist and provide afterschool and GED programs, scholarships and other educational opportunities to all residents who avail themselves to them. We have been made aware of all the opportunities available;but you can not make those who could benefit from them, attend if they themselves don't see the personal need to do so.There are onsite social workers who assist tenants with LIHEAP applications or whatever your personal issuses. If they cannot do so personally they will direct you to the assistance you need. Sadly, time and time again, very few take advantage of it. There are few places people can live, where due to the income guidelines (moderate to low-income) you can take care of your family,at least modestly save some money, get assistance if qualified for utility allowance, educational & job opportunities, ample parking, convienences to center city, highways and other ammenities...at an affordable cost.
As is evident, crime is taking place throughout the entire city, so one neighborhood is no better than the next. It is so easy to complain, but as a solution,we can individually make ourselves responsible to at least live by the golden rule, we'd see an improvement. Trully, home is what you make of it.

Who said I was being fair and balanced?

Care of sugarcoma's post, all I did was post two hyperlinks that I found compelling and commentary that I thought was on point regarding the current conversation.

Dear old Alesis, whereas most of your posts are informative; respected; useful; diligently researched; and, well thought out....you continue to win your battle against affability.

hehehe...thanks, I think.

We're just really beating a dead horse here. What are we going to do? Keep bashing the obvious while on phillyblog, or are we going to show up at QVNA meetings and demand that they actually do something worthwhile instead of determining what type of windows I may have?

At one meeting I plainly stated to the QVNA board about drug problems from the projects, and how it is spreading down fabric row. The idiotic nimby board immediately played down my sentiments and said "we haven't had any drug problems in Queen Village in years"....which is a rather strange statement since they were using drug dealing as an excuse when they tried to make Christian one way.

Sorry asg, forgot to respond to the other part of your thread.

Forgive me, but I firmly believe that selectively posting selective clips from a link doesn't help-that doesn't mean I was veering direct offense against you. I think you have to acknowledge the good with the bad, otherwise one extreme is no better than the other. Believe it or not, the place is a million times better than it used to be. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be improved.

Last night I went to midingt showing(12:30am) of batman. On my cab ride there, I had the driver loop around the projects a couple of times, and the problems were quite obvious. While the area was very quiet and very peaceful, the undercurrent of kids(both black and white)running around the streets are obviously the problem. Add that with the dealers sitting in the cars on the corner, and its pretty obvious where the problem is and how simple it would be for a special enforcement team to work on a solution.

In more pressing matters, and highly unrelated to this topic, is Batman worth the hype?

Yeah, only half?

That's a big underestimate.

By the way, I used to live at the intersection of Chestnut and 13th Street. Do you also need my SSN? PM me all your PII and then I'll consider sending you mine.
