When I saw this quote I was reminded of this article I read about a month ago in the New York Times. Sounds very similar to the scene at the RCA... perhaps even worse.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/23/nyregion/23rocka way.html?_r=1&scp=2&sq=far%20rockaway%20projects&s t=cse&oref=slogin One thing about this is that the cops have increased their presence there and actually made one arrest just a day or two ago. http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/...sted_cops.html "To combat the violence, he said, there would be an influx of 50 officers to the area as well as the installation of a crane to be used as an observation post, allowing a 24-hour police presence." That's basically what needs to happen here. Unfortunately, as we all know there are issues involved with policing the RCA apartments due to the legal status of the property.

NBC10 keeps incorrectly saying "bella vista".
The quote of the day has to be from the project resident who said"they got everything taped off and you can't get ice cream or nothin'". Their neighbors getting shot vs. Ice Cream. Glad they got their priorities straight.

Here's a priority... anybody know anyone who is a pyro and needs an apartment?
Let's move them onto the block... let fate take care of the rest. ![]() Quote:

You need to submit that quote to Overheard In Philly.

From what I've seen, the problem is that 5th St is still an open-air drug market, and the building owners on the west side of the street aren't doing anything to help the problem by allowing their properties to stand as empty shells.
I'm pretty sure the low-rise development is Section 8, which means that the occupants of any unit can be evicted and barred from Section 8 for life if ANYONE is dealing drugs from their unit. |

Instead of worrying about how high off the ground our windows need to be, I think QVNA needs to start to face the facts that these projects are an extreme problem for QV as a whole and for the majority of law-abiding residents who live in them. I just think they are too afraid that it's not PC to say or do anything about the problems that the projects cause in QV. I have to believe that the vast majority of people who live there would also welcome a change. If you think it's bad living a few blocks from the s**t h**ds, imagine what it's like having them as neighbors. All of us want them gone. QVNA it's time to act.

You mean the Queen Village No projects in our neighborhood Association. The problem on this end of the neighborhood seems to be ignored while neighborhood preservation, denying outdoor seating and ice cream shops is top priority. While QVNA might not have control over RCA it certainly could apply more efforts to the surrounding blocks. Ok im done. |
