Between 8 and 9am on weekday mornings, police car 310 regularly (at least once or twice a week) parks on the sidewalk island on the east side of 4th street at that odd intersection with Bainbridge. (The sidewalk island is between the Queen Village Market and Southwark.)
On the list of problems in the world, this isn't very high. But, it is an inconvenience that, it seems, leads to very unsafe situations. People walking to work regularly walk on that side of the street, particularly in the summer months, because that side of the street is shaded in the morning. They then get to this police car that is parked and completely blocking the sidewalk and then have to walk in the street, in the midst of that odd intersection (that many drivers have no idea how to handle). This includes parents walking young kids and/or pets. Again, not the biggest problem in the world, but it's highly unsafe. Does anyone know how I can report this without incurring any wrath from whoever might be driving car 310 at the time? I'm not interested in any discipline; I'd just like it to not happen anymore, as this seems like a pretty common-sense request. Thanks. |

There's not anywhere to cross if you've got a stroller or whatnot. I'm sure the OP is about to get a raft of sh&t from the peanut gallery, but I can understand what they are saying due to the lack of sufficient sidewalks around the gardens.

Like I said, it's not the biggest problem in the world, but is it good for the cops to block the sidewalk so that people are crossing the street at a messed up intersection two extra times? I don't think so. It's quite simple and sensible - don't park on the sidewalk.

Tape a note to the passenger side of the car (mostly so the public can read it well before the cop does).
"Hello, I live in the area, and I noticed you keep illegally parking your squad car here. Could you please park this legally like the rest of us? I support the police and all that they do, but you parking here causes people to dart into the street in an intersection that is already unsafe. It's just a small request, and please don't take it personal. Thanks!"

There are exceptions to this. Certain types of contractors may jump up on the sidewalk if the vehicle is needed there while they perform work (mostly during construction), fire/EMS trucks, and also the media so long as they obtain pre-approval.
