Default Tickets for Sidewalk Parking

Think Hancock-sized tiny sidewalks.
The PPA people are totally correct. They can't ticket cars parked in a small street that does not have "No Parking in This Street" signs posted. I had a similar conversation with a PPA person and they told me to call 911 to get the police to issue tickets. There used to be neighbors who considered the sidewalk of Lawrence St. their own personal parking lot. I called 911 (I used to think 911 was only for serious emergencies, but not in Philly), and they did get the car ticketed most of the times I called. They no longer park there.

Give it a try. Tell the 911 operator that there is a car parked on your sidewalk and blocking passage.

It actually would have to be the police, they are ticketing on our street all the time if cars are parked on the sidewalk, not the PPA. PPA doese not even come up our street, I guess because we do not have any signs either.

There are people who park on Fulton St. right underneath the No Parking sign. PPA told me they don't have jurisdiction over Fulton St. and to call 911. 911 told me they don't have jurisdiction over Fulton St. and to call PPA.

In all seriousness, did something happen there years ago that warrants so much security?

When I go to redhook in the morning I've noticed, depending on the occassion, one or two undercover cars, a beat cop, a marked car, and a crossing guard type lady-all for little ol' s. 4th between bainbridge and catharine. Seems pretty wacky for what seems to be only a handfull of kids going to school in the morning.

A few comments:

Parking the police car on the sidewalk (which other people would possibly get a ticktet for) and blocking the walkway, without there being exigent circumstances is wrong. But I guess the officer thinks it is better than blocking the hydrant on the corner (a big no no) or a traffic lane.

The PPA can not and neither can the police for that matter, write a ticket on a municipal tag. The citation is on the registered owner of the vehicle, which is the city. Are they going to pay a fine to themselves? There is a different procedure that is followed for municipal tags. So the PPA is not your answer.

The Roll Call Complaint is not really the best avenue for this situation. An anonymous (the city phones don't have caller ID) call to the district or captain with your concern would probably have been the better route to go.

I know it irks alot of people who see our cars parked in a manner that would get them tickets, because unless it is an emergency we are supposed to park our cars in a legal manner. Having been here for awhile I realize how hard that is though. You may have to find a spot when you come home or arrive at work or stop to shop or eat. Try finding a spot 10, 15 or 20 times a day!

Posts like this are why I love Phillyblog. "the Behavior". Like he's parked there for some illicit activity. He's blocking a sidewalk (according to you). Instead of getting your blood pressure into high gear, a simple phone call to the district (215-686-3030) would have eased your pain so much faster. They could have offered you an explanation as to why the car was parked there. If it is consistent times, I'm betting he is sent there for a reason. You offer no info about where the cop goes after parking or if he's even in the car.
Now you're spotting him parked at the deli. Perhaps you should report that too. After all he's probably taking away a space from a tax payer.
It would have been so much simpler to call the district. this talk of tracing ISP and phone calls is just ridiculous. Although 911 calls do record the location of where a call originates, it is never given to the cops unless exigent circumstances are present. This is simply to protect the cops from inane accussations of retaliation for making such calls.
We're all grown ups, I suspect. A police car parked where you don't think it should be is hardly an issue worthy of several pages on an internet forum.
Although we are not Big Brother, we are monitoring every move alesis makes. Just don't tell him.
