Anyone else hear popping or shot sounds around 3:20 this morning near Meredith School, on Fitzwater, I think? Woke me right up.

And earlier in the evening, lots of noise and siren incidents. Busy night last night, or just my imagination?

Heard it too, sounded to be around south street?
Maybe 10 shots or so?

Well, there were lots of people on catherine near 10th last night firing off fireworks if that helps

I heard it as I was going through the neighborhood. Pretty sure it was just fireworks as it seemed almost timed in succession and rather hollow sounding(as if it was some kids who put fireworks in something). Didn't sound like a gun.

Bingo folks.

We had fireworks going off in Fairmount last night too - pretty loud, some of them. Generally I think firework reports are a bit more substantial-sounding than gunshots, which (from my experience anyway) sound more like flat pops.

No doubt these "were those shots or fireworks?" threads are doing wonders for the city's image, not that I'm criticizing anyone for posting them, as I sometimes wonder, too, what's happening when I hear popping sounds.

The same reason why you get sirens after the noises like Maria QV posted above. The people are calling 911 thinking they are gun shots.

Hope the day doesn't come when nobody calls in a shooting thinking they were just fireworks.

But for the next few months there will be plenty of legal and illegal fireworks going off.

Why worry about QVNA's idea of a conservation district screwing with my prop. values...neighbors are more than helpful in sending them down the tubes.

Anyone who actually looked at statistical evidence would see that the chances of a shooting, even when standing near the projects, is practically nil when viewing the 2007 shooting map.
