Default Where can I..

find a good take-out Italian hoagie?

I've been living in QV for a few months now, and have yet to find a good Italian take out place with a good Italian hoagie/special/sub. It's a staple in my diet and I've been having cravings. I'm talking about that "go-to" sandwich shop for a Friday or Saturday night.

What's everyone's favorite in the area?

Not sure how late they are open, probably not much later than 5 or 6, but (as was mentioned a few times in the Italian Festival thread below) Sarcones is by far the best hoagie in the city, not too many South Philly people are even gonna argue with that point. As was recommended in that other thread, the Old Fashioned Italian is a crowd favorite. Here is the phone number if you want to call and check hours...215 922-1717

Definitely Sarcone's. 9th and Fitzwater.

I have been fantasizing about that hoagie.

heh heh, if I was a proper shill, I would have at least known some hours! I'm bad at this shilling thing (my official shill duties are usually just for the South Philly Tap Room, but I wanted to expand a bit to my OLD neighborhood also) I do miss living in the market and being that close to Sarcones, Lorenzos (christian st, not south st), Rays and the Dive...

Trying to come up with somewhere that may be open a bit later for the OP but can't think of anywhere special that makes a great sandwich. BUT, do try Chickies on Federal street between 10th and 11th also, great italian hoagies there too!

All of those are good picks.

I also like Cosmi's in S. philly(they deliver), Gianfranco Pizza Rustica has some good hoagies if only for their homemade bread.

To get a good look at what s. philly restaurants have to offer, you can search through their menus here:

Thanks for the replies. I should of thought to check the "Shill" thread first!

I knew about Sarcones from this forum, but I figured they might not have late hours. I am gonna have to try them soon, everybody raves about their subs.

I have ordered from Gianfranco's, not sandwiches though, and it's been very good

Appreciate the replies

While Chickie's is good (not in BV, but rather South Philly), they do not hold a stick to Sarcone's. I suggest "The Boss", that thing is nothing but a bunch of meat and cheese....just the way I like it.

I'm not a veggie, but I hear Chick's makes a mean Veggie hoagie.
And Nipsey...next time you go to Slice, just look a block up Federal toward 11th, it's right there on the left hand side.
