It's probably the guy I yelled at after he left it in front of our house. I have not seen him back since or have not found another pile. I figured that he didn't just turn into a responsible person but figured he rather moved into another area where he does not get caught and yelled at all the time.

The dog poop IS pretty bad. I have a dog and I can't imagine ever leaving his pile o fun for someone else. I've been amazed by the type of people that do it too - like well dressed middle aged women - I mean, how can you possibly think that's ok? We had some 20-something girl neighbors who would bag the poop but then throw it in a pile in front of their house until trash day. I'm sure you can imagine the smell and flies. Someone finally had them put an end to it but we were bewildered for the longest time why they really thought that would be ok to do.

Default t might've been me riding on the sidewalk

Did I have my 2 year old son on the bike with me? I'll ride in the street if I'm alone, but when I carry my son, we always ride on the sidewalk.

Although - I would never look irritated at pedestrians.

And - I can ride slower than you can walk. So if I was behind you, and couldn't pass with an easy smile and "pardon us" - then I would stay behind you.

If it was me, apologies.

No, it was young guys (early 20's) by themselves both times and one girl (also 20's) by herself.
If I didn't feel safe riding on the street, I just wouldn't do it. I can understand people not wanting to ride on Broad, Washington or Columbus, but c'mon - 10th street? People are afraid of the traffic on 10th?
I am especially nervous walking my 30lb dog when bikes come around corners and quickly pass us. It's not right regardless of the situation and that's why it's against the law. I've had many, many VERY close calls - too many and they seem to happen at least once a week so now I try to only walk my dog on small streets where you can't ride a bike on the sidewalk because it's too narrow and/or the sidewalk has a lot of bricks. It's too bad that because people get away with breaking the law others have to suffer and feel unsafe. As I said - riding by a house where a toddler or dog runs out and there could be a major accident.

I think anyone with common sense wouldn't fault a parent for being on the sidewalk with their kid. Its the younger adults who constantly ride the sidewalk I think people have problems with.

Personally, I hate the weekend group of roller bladers. We were going through QV this afternoon when they came whipping through an intersection as we were ready to go through. They didn't blow whistles or anything, and instead just screamed "stop now" at us. I flipped them off and yelled " Did you ever hear of the right of way", to which they all yelled "f*** you" in unisyn-obviously a sign that they get the reaction a lot. I pleasantly asked them to come back, but they declined. Next week they may find some marbles in their path.

Oh, and I hate dog poop. I will post my pictorial when I get a chance. Right now I am drowning in a million items by Ron English that I have to find a place for.

Definitely!!!! It's the 20-40 crowd just wipping by as if it's their own personal bike lane, riff raff teens, food delivery guys and a huge percentage of guys from south of border that probably don't know it's illegal.

Oh please O.H. Lee - spread the word to start issuing tickets!

How does someone have *so many* close calls? I walk, and probably more than you do, and have to deal with the bicyclists as well, but I don't find them any more annoying than any one of a dozen other things that happen when you walk in a city, any city? And by the way, In Tokyo, it is normal and expected to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk, where they are much more congested than here, and bicycles come much closer to people walking than they do here.

And as for your example of a child or dog running out of a house and meeting with potentially tragic consequences of colliding with a bike--have you ever seen a bicyclist get doored by a cab rider as he gets out of a cab? I have, that wasn't pretty.

The bottom line is: car vs. bicycle, bicycle loses, bicycle vs. pedestrian, much more ability to move out of the way if one isn't intent on being an obstreperous asswipe and not nearly the potential for damage. Tread marks on an ankle, even when a fat chick hits you at 16th & Walnut, do clear up eventually.

It wasn't you in my case, either. The cyclist had no kid with her. And even though the law doesn't make exceptions, I agree that exceptions should be made to the sidewalk cycling prohibition if the cyclist has a young child on board. However, that cyclist should take care to ride slowly and yield the right of way to pedistrians.

HG - While this wasn't the case in the instance I cited from Saturday a.m., I've seen some sidewalk cycling that wouldn't leave much chance for a pedestrian to avoid serious injury or worse. Have also seen some crazy pedestrian-unsafe street cycling through a crosswalk and some cyclists engage in riding that's dangerous to themselves, like flying off a sidewalk and into a crosswalk. That's not to say there's not some very crazy, jerky, dangerous motor vehicle driving. It doesn't excuse this sort of cycling, however.

I rode my bike during my first and second trimester up on the sidewalk. I needed the exercise, but couldn't risk getting nailed by a car.
I was always courteous to pedestrians and often hopped off my bike to let them pass if there were more than two.

I always let children and dogs go too.

I would spend sometime in the street, avoiding heavily traveled areas altogether.

I'd much prefer to see a bicyclist on the sidewalk than a fresh steaming pile of doggie's best work.

I bike a lot, and occasionally I will use the sidewalk to get around a bad traffic jam, construction zone, dumpster, etc, but I certainly don't make a habit of it. When on the sidewalk I always ride very slowly and I'm conscious of pedestrians. If we are heading towards each other and there's only room for 1 I let the ped go first, always. I'm back on the street asap.

But.....if there was 1 bicycle on the sidewalk for every pile-o'dogshit I see on the sidewalk there wouldn't be room for anyone to walk or ride a bike. Simply disgusting.....and it will NEVER end because it's NEVER enforced. neither is riding on the sidewalk
