Weren't really rumors as that info came from the Turkish owners mouth to my ears. What gives you the impression that they won't be serving Turkish pastries AND coffee? Turkish coffee also happens to be really good. They've totally redone the basement of the building too (tile on the floor) which i'm assuming will be the baking/prep area. Whatever it turns out to be, it is a tremendous improvement over the prior two lackluster efforts. The awning that they're adding makes that building look 100% better. If this place fails, it won't be due to lack of effort on their part. Whatever the owner is involved in (other than Divan) he definitely doesn't lack financial resources as he zips around in multiple BMWs

I was just being funny with the thread title and didn't mean to insult. And yes-I also apologize for calling them "rumors"-I was merely generalizing the act of hearing something through a third party.
That said-I think the place looks great and has good potential. HOWEVER, they were telling people they were opening a "turkish bakery" which is exempt from being scrutinized at for zoning. A take out coffee place is a whole different story. Any business that in any part sells to go items in disposable ware must get a variance. The variance on that property expired many years ago . Why should QVNA put places like Red Hook Coffee, Java Co., etc. through a long costly process of uncertainty while others get to sail right through? Oh...I forgot, cafe fulya is friends with qvna board members-who were in there helping him set up the other night. And now I'm told he's going to have outdoor seating on both sides when his property clearly can't legally support it due to several factors? Meanwhile upstanding places like Ansill and Gayle can't have outdoor seating because QVNA said no way. Gotta love it. Quote:

QVNA is a joke if the Cafe has outdoor seating. For Gayle and Ansill not to be permitted is completely ridiculous, while the cafe and Mako's have it.
I just can't see the Ansill crowd being a raucous and rowdy type to keep the neighbors awake. What a joke! |

I went to Cafe Fulya tonight. It was very nice. They appear to be well on their way to becoming a full featured cafe with sandwiches, breakfast, etc. The coffee is la colombe as with everyone else, but it seemed to taste richer and fresher than other places. I got my wife a tart and she loved it. Its really a great place, but my original argument stands-QVNA cannot selectively allow others to open without a fight while others have to jump ridiculous hurdles and lose tons of money fighting a nimby group.

I was at cafe fulya during the grand opening and it was great. What made it great was the blond haired woman I am guessing in her 30's doing all the work. She was friendly, dynamic and incredibly knowledgeable and fast. The greatest thing about her was the spirit and ambiance she brought to the cafe.
I have been there a few times since and it isn't the same. Foods good, drinks are good but the girl made the place special |

if ansill and gayle would like to stop dealing with those kind of shenanigans and have all the outdoor seating they want, there is a lovely neighborhood just over a mile west of their current location where they'd be welcomed with hardly any opposition. specifically ansill, where i have eaten more often than pretty much any other place since it opened. but you know, gayle too. come on over, guys! |

The owner of the cafe is zipping around in multiple BMW's for sure but was that his girlfriend at the cafe the first day? I want to know about her. The really nice girl behind the counter. Mid 30's probably. She's a professor or something. Tell me she isn't HIS girlfriend!

Two posts in a day about this lady? you know, they do serve food and drinks, too!
![]() Go in and ask about her. If she helped them out on the first day she probably helps them at Divan. How do you know she is a professor? Or are you hallucinating from their amazing desserts? Quote:
