Default The Shill Section

Ok ... since it seems that there are a decent number of readers ready to pounce (perhaps rightly so) on a post that comes off as shilling, perhaps we need a thread STRICTLY for the purpose of unsolicited raving and praise of a local business or such ...

So, unless I'm off base - I hope my fellow neighbors will post here and tell me and others about some of their favorite spots in our neighborhood - what makes them shine and perhaps even some inside dirt as to what is a 'must order' or when to swing by for great deals, etc...

Hope is readers who love to call out those 'first-time posters' as potential shills, will give the posts within this thread a 'pass' and take this thread simply for what it is.

As for readers - read this thread with a grain of salt. Yes, if a brand new member starts their PB post history with a detailed rave about a spot, they certainly COULD be employed - or even own - said space.

Life goes on.

So - I hope others will want to share some rave reviews of what THEY think is sweet in our 'hood ... new spots or classic locations that deserve a new visit! As someone who has lived in this neighborhood since 1981, I always look forward to reading about some of the personal faves in our 'hood.

(of course, this thread could die on the vine - but I figured it was time to give it a shot at least)

I think Jon's has the greatest lunch special in world until 3pm. Soup and choice of burger for only 6.95. Can't beat it!

WOW - that's EXACTLY what I'm talkin' about... i didn't even know they had a lunch special - and the last time i ate there i was pleasantly surprised with how good the food was ... (you always think tourist traps will suck - but Jon's isn't bad - especially now, knowing the lunch special!)

Love the burgers at Copa, and love The Bean Exchange!

The burgers at Copa taste good, and they always follow my directions there (no bun, put a few greens under the burger) and are nice about my request. I don't do it to be a PITA, but because I can't eat the bread. The greens were the suggestion of a very nice waitress in there one night.

As for the Bean Exchange--it's always a nice, clean environment, with good coffee and I like the way the doors open on nice days to let the air in.

while I respect your noble experiment, it is doomed...doomed, I say! however, as one of the self-appointed shill police, i promise not to post oversized spam images herein

i'll also shout out ansil's offal, soutwark's manhattans, georges pork sandwiches, dibrunos overpriced cheese...
...pif's snails, knave of hearts slightly seedy atmosphere...oh, wait...

This is my first post, and I hope I don't get flamed for my first post being in this thread (don't treat me like the Irish Times poster). I've been lurking around for a while now and finally registered tonight...

Anyway, anybody eat at Pad Thai at 2nd and South? I went again tonight for maybe the 10th time in the past 6 months. IMO it is great Thai food and very reasonably priced. Service is either deathly slow or very prompt, but tonight, it was on.

For as good as I (and everyone I've gone with) thinks the food is, the place is never, ever crowded! Not even on a Saturday night, you can always get a table. (not sure if that is a good or bad sign!) The takeout is quick, too.

Anybody else care to share their opinion of this place?
