I spoke to him after I saw he closed, he told me that he'd gotten really sick, and had moved in w/ his mom for a bit and was doing better. I don't remember what it was he said he had. I meant to google it.
It sounded strange, but nothing about him isn't strange.

that is SUCH a true statement - although he is a great guy!

I will miss the Joint - great quick burritos at a good price!
I remember joking with him that he should just bust the wall down once McD closed up and spread out a bit ... haha...

The Nicoise salad at coquette is the best salad in the area. They rarely seem to have the tuna prepared so I call ahead to see if they have it.

The Bahn Mi vegetarian sandwiches at Cafe Nhy y on Christian are cheap and addictive. When they reopened recently I heard a lady out front say she ate 3 that day, I don't blame her. I am glad they are back.

Finally, for the guitarists, Settlement Music school, not blue bond, is the mecca. Settlement offers lessons, the classical guitar society schedules performances there frequently on Sundays and they have their annual guitar festival there which is a huge event. The best classical guitarists in the world have performed or have given master classes there. Most people in the area don't pay attention to what's going on at settlement which is a shame as it's a great resource for all types of musicians or listeners.

OK - first of all, thanks to those that have already replied - i've learned about some spots i've never tried before - and have added them to my list!

Now, I suppose i should contribute here with a brief list of some neat places etc...

Las Bugambilias - I've eaten here so often at this point, they don't even ask what I want as my appetizer This is great authentic traditional Mexican food in a great, intimate setting.

Southwark - naturally, a fave haunt for many of us! Go, even if its just to have a drink to start your night out - or better yet, stop there on the way home from a night out and have a nightcap! Kip and George are classy and classic bartenders through and through.

Latest Dish - just when the menu was starting to get stale, Tony brings in a new chef and changes galore - and many of them are great! I still swear the tofu meatballs are really deep fried balls of cheese. MMMM, CHEESE!

Ugly American - another spot that I frequent a bit too often - a neat dinner menu with simple fare and reasonable prices... a great addition to that corner of the world.

Ms. Tootsie's Soul Food Cafe - Truly the best authentic soul food I've had in quite some time... and the atmosphere is friendly and much more inviting then Delilah's spot - - although Delilah still rocks the mac & cheese.

Of course, even though it's hard to imagine - i do more than just eat

Check out SugarTown - the last Saturday of each month at Tritone; a night of lady rockers and DJs produced by Sara Sherr ... I've caught some great female live peformances there and it's always a great crowd. For you 'oldtimers' like myself, last month featured a great set by ALICE COHEN - who used to be in the local band The Vels!

http://www.myspace.com/alicecohen

While out and about - swing by the 2nd floor bar of Lickety Split on a Thursday night ... for an old-fashioned punk rock party... talk about flashbacks to the old days of South Street ... quite fun indeed! Guest bartender is Rob (owner of Crash Bang Boom/Zipperhead)...

I'll share more later - but those are a few spots off the top of my head!

OH - and for a totally non 'nightlife' recommendation, allow me to tip my hat to Scott at the UPS store on South Street ... that dude goes beyond the call and has helped me on a few occasions; great spot for color copies and just about any printing need - no matter how large...

As we move from food ... Trinity Frame Shop, Bainbridge and 3rd. They do a great job, support neighborhood causes (discounts to PCS members, give gift certificates for charity auctions, etc.), understand customer good will (I always get a "thank you for letting us frame that" card) and are just all around friendly good guys.

I second that - I've known those guys before they started and have used them a number of times - quality work, quick turn-arounds and decent pricing!

OK OK!!

Sex Dwarf - Philly's nonstop new wave dance party the first Friday of every month at Fluid ... not just for the 'kids' ...

http://myspace.com/phillysexdwarf

Philly Zombie Crawl - join us every Easter Sunday as we take over South Street in celebration of the world's most famous zombie, Jesus!

http://phillyzombiecrawl.com

Craft Sundays @ Tattooed Mom - what started as a prop for my quarterly birthday parties has become a monthly tradition! From the March Potato Party to our annual Christmas decoration stations - Sunday afternoon at Moms is quite crafty!

http://myspace.com/tattooed_mom

of course, the list of FORMER things I've produced on the strip is pretty long too - from Le Cabaret Melange (which played over 100 shows every Thursday night at L'Etage), to GLOW - a weekly party in the Love Lounge above The Knave of Hearts, to mixers at Mont Serrat...

but - i'll save my shilling for the right moments - for now, back to YOUR picks! (pen in hand)

And if they cannot get to one of your fine events, how can they hear the same electrifying beats in the comfort of their own home?
