Pad Thai is very good, and we have friends that insist on going nearly every time they're in town. Their grown children love it too, and go every time they're passing through as well.

Anyway, anybody eat at Pad Thai at 2nd and South? I went again tonight for maybe the 10th time in the past 6 months. IMO it is great Thai food and very reasonably priced. Service is either deathly slow or very prompt, but tonight, it was on.

For as good as I (and everyone I've gone with) thinks the food is, the place is never, ever crowded! Not even on a Saturday night, you can always get a table. (not sure if that is a good or bad sign!) The takeout is quick, too.

Anybody else care to share their opinion of this place?
I like the food at Pad Thai a lot ... but the restaurant itself, not so much. It seems very cold and uncomfortable. That's why it's a take out/delivery place for me.

I'm partial to Cafe Laos on 11th which is Thai and Laotian.

I also like trees. Is it possible to shill for trees? Like the Lorax, only different.

I like Korinas on Passyunk, it is dingy inside but the food is fabulous and cheap. I would say I like Clementine's but it is history.

I also love Little Fish since they got their new kitchen, actually I liked the old kitchen too. Can't be beat for a nice date.

When I have the extra coin, you can find me taste-testing from the extensive tequila menu at Xochitl. Mmmmm, guacamole, chips, and El Mayor.

And TLA Video was the only place in town I could find "The Ten Commandments" on DVD in time for Passover!

Have you been in since they finished renovations after all these years? They got rid of the dividing wall and the pool table, and it looks pretty decent. Plus they're open til' midnight which can't be beat

I like the Ugly American in Pennsport. The open face chicken sandwich is great. </hoarse monotone>

Valentino's on Moyamensing is also really good. I always get a side of thinnest angel hair pasta I've ever had with this light blush sauce. One day that's all I'm ordering

The Chicken Caesar at Pete's Sake is really good, The Royal does that pretty well too with warm polenta croutons.

Mustard Greens - the string beans in garlic are great and of course the nectarine chicken. Sometimes I'll switch off and get the Sesame Chicken in cough syrup er honey/lemon sauce.

And for cheaps, you can't beat the Friday night happy hour and .25c wings at Killldare's Pub.

People won't believe me, but these are by far the best wings in the area-bar none.

I am a huge fan of the following:

1) Pietros - In my opinion, the best take out on South Street. The food stays warm and the dressing is packed in a separate container so that the salad is not nasty. I think my wife and I pick up a Insalata Mista with grilled chicken 1 x week.

2) For Pete's Sake - In my opinion, the best bar food in the area. I am prone to the ribs, burger, wings and nachos. Very small and crowded at times, but, the drinks will pass the time.

3) The Joint (I think that is the name) - right next to the old McDonalds on South. Huge Burritos and you get to build them yourself. My wife is not as big of a fan as I am...but I have yet to find a better burrito.

4) The Artful Dodger - Good bar food, but they have a great "steak salad" and other healthy, not atypical "bar food" goodies.

5) Famous Fourth Street Deli - In my opinion, best deli in town. My wife and I split a soup and sandwich and are stuffed for a month.

6) There is a BYO on third? in between Bainbridge and South (right next to the bagel shop.) I forgot the name, but love the food.

7) Gnocchi (613 E Passyunk Ave) - Let them prepare the 5 course meal...I have not been disappointed yet.

Those are the first 7 I could think of...I have no financial interest in any of these places or any interest for a positive review.

Of note, I waited tables and bar tended at one of the above when I was in law school, but that does not hamper my ability to recognize good food.

asg,
the joint mysteriously closed. No one knows what happened. We were hanging out with the owner the night before and he was talking business as usual-next day he disappeared and there's a for rent sign on the place. Its a very strange loss that we're all still trying to figure out. After all of these years, no one got a goodbye or explanation as to why he was leaving
