Default Any opinions on Queens Village vs Art Museum area?

I am debating the neighborhoodiness (yes I just made up that word!) of 2nd/Catharine and 15th/North. i know they are very different. any thoughts? my guess is that queens village seems more walkable and populated...and feels safer...so i think i have my answer but am curious if anyone has differing opinions

no contest.. qv has a great feel. terrific little restaurants.. shopping needs are all met within blocks.. a nice mix of folks.. i looked at a couple houses up there but didn't feel that same neighborhood center or there there or whatever. it's also a bit grittier, noisier up there--without any offsetting amenities except for maybe the park and river if you like to go running.

You'll be happy with 2nd/cath.. You're near a convenience store, coffee shop, bars, south street, dry cleaners, and just about anything else you want. The area is about as safe as any city neighborhood can be-and soon enough you'll find yourself b*tching about dog poop and the occasional loud motorcycle like the rest of us!!!

I agree with the above. I live right near 2nd and Catharine and it's just a great place. Convenient to everything. There are a lot of activities in Mario Lanza Park (on Catharine btw 2nd and 3rd) over the summer - movie nights, concerts, kids fest, etc.

As an aside - it's Queen Village, not Queens.

Welcome!

Default yay

Yep, I'd pretty much decided and now am making final arrangements to move in. so all is well.

it's funny, I've seen both Queens Village (I assumed Queen's Village) as well as Queen Village, but I will take it from a local

thanks for the input everyone. i am so excited to be moving in (getting over a fresh breakup and need a new change of environment!!)

Though you've made your decision, I'll offer an opinion. Fairmount has its attractions too - we have some nice bars & eating places, as well as a small-town feel. Our main advantage is proximity to the river park & other recreational areas, as well as to the museums (though I don't find myself going there a whole lot). The major drawback is that it takes more effort to get in to Center City proper.

Where you were looking, however, 15th & North, is not Fairmount, but Spring Garden. It's more central, but not so nice.

Hmm, interesting. thanks niel. i was actually wondering what that area was called, because i could sense a shift in the neighborhood as i got up that way.

however, it wasn't like the area near girard/parrish/poplar, where...i personally might not be comfortable at night alone (i'm a tiny person)
