Wow, I didn't even know that was an issue until I started browsing the boards; I can see how it would be frustrating for residents and locals.

Elvis I am not (yet) a local, but I don't think that is so much a problem because you are paying local tax. I think people are frustrated more with (1) out of towners who try to swindle a permit whereas there are others who cannot get one legitimately
and (2) out of towners who take up their spots.

The issue with out of towners who live in Philly but do not pay the tax - unfortunately I think this happens everywhere and is something out of our immediate control

Actually I understand that. I am actually ok with YOUNGER people keeping their residence at their parents home while they rent in Queen village. I think that is normal. My point is I should be able to park on the street if I prove ownership of the home even though my cars are not registered in Philadelphia since my legal residence is not Philadelphia.

You may be, I may be, but talk to the insurance company and I highly doubt they would be too keen of the bait and switch tactic. Call me crazy, but I highly doubt that anyone with out of state tags is calling their agent and saying "Hi, I want to keep the car addressed to my parent's house but I'm going to be using it in philadelphia for the next four years while I attend school and work latenight bar jobs-how much will my insurance be now?".

Normal? Yes. Loss of insurance and any claim you may have with them? Yes.

Your legal residence may not be philadelphia, but once agin-I highly doubt you chose Philadelphia as your vacation home away from home. What state are your plates registered in, Elvis? Please tell me your story so that I may better understand.

You are right. I know that if you get in a serious accident (pehaps a death) the first thing the insuance company will do is investigate if you really live at the address on the policy.
What I am thinking of is students where it is a temporary residence, then I THINK the insurance would still be valid.

Actually it is kind of a vacation home in the city. I live in Berks county & spend most of my time out there.

alesis, how do you get anything done as much as you respond to this board????

Then you have a rare, understandable situation. Here's a simple thought to weigh. Just mail the registration to your philadelphia place. Since you don't need to worry about parking in berks, you don't have to worry about your car being titled to your suburban address.

I'm semi-retired(as in I'm not old enough to retire but I don't have to work) and do a lot of charity work. I built every business by myself, and one day I realized that I could actually chill out and enjoy myself a bit. My retail businesses run themselves if I'm not there. I just got done with a couple of book ideas and I'm currently working on another project. I also work on some websites congruent to my businesses. I have a recording studio and do stuff with that.

Alot of non-personal stuff involves teams that I have trusted and managed for years, so its not like I do everything myself.

In my business I get about 200+emails a day that are delivered to my phone, computers, car, or out-n-about through various means, so it really doesn't phase me to answer a post then flip the window and go back to work.

Oh, and I don't sleep.
