Anyway, what I found is that two buses go near there, the 99 and the 131, and both appear to leave from the Norristown transportation center. And THAT is served by the R6. so....we may not necessarily be forced to drive the Schuylkill, but it could be a long public transport commute.
If you can spare the time (meaning, you don't REALLY need a 30 minute commute), being on Septa means you can read, work on a laptop, listen to your ipod, sleep more, etc. A 60 minute train/bus ride is more "productive" and less stressful than a 30 minute traffic jam. That said, the R6+131 seems to be at least 80-90 minutes from suburban station, and that is getting pretty long for doing daily.

It amazes me how people post blogs before they go out there and find out for themselves. I have two replys; FIRST, if you insist on driving, go out on a m-Fri and try the commute out for yourself. SECOND; you live in the city...so utilize the public transit, which goes straight to Norristown on the R6. I live in South Philly and commute to Conshohocken, right near Ntown, on a daily basis. I took the train for years but just recently started driving, and it's not bad at all. Most of the traffic is on the opposite side of 76, and if I have to, I take Kelly drive and various back roads. If the job is worth it do what's best for your future, AND it is surely better than paying the Philly wage tax.

Granted my hours are 9:30-5:30, so I might be on the latter end of the rush hours, but my commute from south philly to Conshohocken has never by any means been unbearable. And it's been two years now... I NEVER go 76, period. Always "back roads." Here's my route.

- (from Queen Village) Third st to Spring Garden
- Spring Garden westbound to Kelly dr.
- Kelly dr to Hunting Park Ave (make a right)
- Hunting Park ave to Henry
- Henry merge into ridge...right into Conshohocken

The way back home is even easier as coming back I pick up 676E from the art museum area and take that to 95s and get off at columbus, cuts off a good 10 minutes or so.

Average time for my commutes are about 45 minutes.

I'd venture to say that taking a similar route, the worst part of the commute is trucking through Conshy/Norristown. Not sure where you specifically need to go, but ridge ave/mian st/butler/fayette st are never pretty during rush hour. Just my spare change...
