What's going on around there? All of those abandoned houses? Is this a "safe" place to live? Are there any plans to make the area a little nicer?

You realize there used to be giant Cabrini Green-tyle high rise housing project there several years back, right? Sometimes it takes a while for an area to bounce back from the ill-effects of a giant high-concentration housing project like that.

Universal Companies (is that right?), the real estate company owned by Kenny Gamble of the Gamble and Huff Philly Soul 70's record production team owns a lot of properties on both sides of Broad around there. A lot of neighbors have mixed feelings about the success of thier efforts around there. Originally Universal was trying to "bring up" a beat up, predominately black section of the city but now the market is so hot they have sort of switched their mission to trying to maintain a supply of affordable housing in the area for low-income and elderly black folks, which is kind of a wierd goal for a private company. I know many neighbors who post here are not overly fond of Universal and the close relationship it maintains with the mayor's office. There has been some controversy about Universal getting lined up to purchase properties at sherrif's sale that might have normally gone for more.

Let me be clear - these are accusations I have heard - not an assertion I am making myself.

So move it back to Center City- you have the power as moderator and while you are at it you can delete our chatter which will make no sense then.

Wow - I didn't know I could do that . . . and effect other people's forums. Wait until you see what I'll send you. :deal?:

Maybe it should have gone to QV/BV since it is south of south. Let BG deal with it.

I thought Chrissayer insisted that anything north of Oregon Ave and east of Broad be considered "Ye Olde Citie"!??
