On Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. City Council will be holding a hearing on the Foxwoods Casino. Unlike other candidates I am unequivocally opposed to casinos in Philadelphia. If you are similarly opposed to the Foxwoods Casino and the inevitable death of our neighborhood that will follow

Wally, you also need to buy a clue.
Seriously. "No other world-class cities with casinos." REALLY? Do some due diligence before you open mouth and insert foot. I cannot vote for you. Sorry. You need to show me much more.

No wonder the gay community in Philadelphia likes you...you are such a drama queen!
I'm all for public servitude, but public ineptitude will not get my vote. Too little, too late. Quote:

He doesn't even know what a world class city is... economically, they are actually broken down into global and world cities. Let's take a tour...
London-casinos Paris-casinos Amsterdam-casinos Madrid-casinos Milan-casinos Moscow-casinos Toronto-casinos And I didn't even start the list yet. |

I can't vote for someone that doesn't know such things, especially when they've been uttered all over THIS board numerous times. It's one thing to be against casinos, it's completely another to utter inane falsehoods.

Here are some stats from my "due diligence," which I presented to the CCRA two weeks ago.
1. 2.4% of all gamblers are compulsive gamblers. 2. Compulsive gamblers account for 1/3 of all receipts. 3. 25,000 new compulsive gamblers will be created if casinos come to Philadelphia. 4. Stats show that suicide, embezzlement, and bankruptcy increase in cities where gambling is introduced. So I am not really being a drama queen, but rather a realist. As for world class cities and casinos, apparently Sal Masi Speaker of the House in Massachusetts, is clueless as well because he said essentially the same thing during a debate on legalizing gambling in that State. Moreover, vision is not casinos. Visions is having the guts to give incentives to business to develop waterfront in a positive manner. Casinos are a copout. Harrisburg just gave Vanguard incentives to build a new office in the 'burbs. 2,000 people will work there. Not to mention the feeder business that will spring up to serve them. So what would you rather have Vanguard or a slots pallor? As for development, when you have a casino the only thing that goes next to it is another casino. So there is your vision. Finally, casinos represent corrupt politics. The entire passage of the gambling bill reeks and I am offended that the our elected officials are getting away with it. Ditto for the "selection" of the sites. A vote for casinos is a vote by the citizens for politicians to shove it down our throats. |
