This morning a person smashed out a window at Net on 5th and South and entered the premises to burglarize the place. Unfortunately for him, police have been staying aware of the pervasiveness of these crimes around the city, and almost instantly arrived at the scene. The offender was caught, and I imagine they will be investigating him for other crimes. Took these pictures while enroute to the bean this morning.

BTW, my phone did some cool warping thing since I almost dropped it while taking the first picture.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - April 19, 2008 (WPVI) -- Police are looking for two men who terrorized three women during a home invasion on South Street.

Police say the men, armed with guns, burst into an apartment late Friday night at 7th and South, not far from the busy restaurants and shops.

Once inside, police say the men tied up the women, stole their purses full of cash, credit cards, and other valuables and personal information.

The bandits fled without hurting the women. They managed to free themselves and call 9-1-1.
Adding insult to injury, police suspect the women were not supposed to be the victims. Investigators say the men broke into the apartment to hide out and wait for a man in another apartment to come home. They wanted to rob him. It's unknown if the women were tied up because one of them saw the intruders. Police want to hear from tipsters who may have seen the men, or who have any information on the home invasion and robbery

What is going on here people? I'm between Lombard and South on 7th and about 10 days ago our neighbor's house was broken into and they destroyed it. I don't know if they took anything but it wasn't a good situation. What is happening around here?

It helps for everyone in the area to know how these homes are being targeted - are they apartment buildings or row homes, how are the invaders getting in (breaking windows? doors?). This way everyone can be more vigilant. Time of day is good to know as well. The more informed we are the better we can watch what's going on and be extra careful. Most importantly, if the cops find out these are random or targeted we should know.
