Default Why Did Town Watch Oppose a Mexican Restaurant?

I have had it with the Bella Vista Town Watch and their zoning group (tell me again why a town watch full of developers controls neighborhood zoning?) A company that has several Mexican restaurants in NYC is trying to put a beautiful Mexican Restaurant in Bella Vista at 7th and Passyunk.
But even though neighbors support the plan, the town watch is fighting it!
They did the same thing to Las Casuelas when they wanted to open a second location in our neighborhood.

Again -- shouldn't they be patrolling the streets? Who are these bone heads?

A sorry excuse for NIMBYs. This town is FULL of NIMBYs. Its the reason why you have to be connected to get anything done here.

Is there anything in the world that cc won't blame on some mythical Nimby. I sure wish he were right - we could build the city in a manner that we like.

Some Iraqi stands up and says he wants the US troops to go home.

Damn Nimby, says cc.

On a serious note: I'm surprised that a town watch organization has a zoning and use committee. And even more suprised that this Nimby committee is "full of developers."

There are lots of reasons to question the addition of more liquor licenses in residential neighborhoods.

Where's Vern with an explanation.

Wow - why would someone ever oppose a Las Cazuelas in their neighborhood - its Philly's only "nice" Mexican BYOB. There are other family style joints and few high-end spots that aren't partucularly authentic, but Las Cazuelas is the only Mexican place I know of in Philly where the food is both top-notch and authentic, not "latin fusion".

Probaby because they were not willing to pay off DiCicco or Fumo. Something tells me that one of the "developers" on the Bella Vista Town Watch may be a son or daughter of Frankie. Just a guess, I could be wrong, but I doubt it...

Well Chris check this link and see if the two, BVTW and DiCicco, could possibly be in bed together. Note the Citizen's Alliance Emblem as well as Frankie's mugshot...

i don't know, Rob. Even if your scenario were true - Mexicans are pretty used to having to pay off their local elected officials. :?

The restuarant operator also owns Pico de Gallo (15th & South). He's very persistent, it took him over a year to open that place, but he got it done.
If the bone head Town Watch succeeds, I'd be glad to see him move about 10 blocks down Passyunk.
