This is potentially the single most important issue to happen in QV in my 15 years living here.
There are several things at play here... One is definately the power end, which is very scary I agree, but another is the fact that this proposal affects alterations to existing homes. Our homes. This proposal puts many of our houses out of accordance with their qualifications and if renovations are needed, it is unclear how that will be handled. In my experience with the QV Zoning Board, it will be handled with little affection for the home owner. Another major issue here is that most people, as Ive found, do not understand this. QVNA's official position on this is if they havent done the research, well thats on them. This meeting on Thurs/15th is an excellent oppurtunity to attempt to end this, or atleast alter it to protect current homeowners. This is unlikely to happen at the moment though, as most neighbors are unaware of the ramifications of this bill, or in many cases, that the bill even exists. Most people on this thread seem to be worried, at the least. We need to inform our neighbors, as many as possible, and urge them to show up on Thursday. We need to be the force that makes this happen. I have talked to more than a dozen neighbors, 8 were fully unaware, the rest had heard about it, but didnt understand it at all. Please inform your neighbors of the potential here, please urge them to show up. I too am a Flyers fan, Ill take one for the team and show up. I dont have a child, forgive me if it is harder than it sounds, but get a sitter. Please show up on Thursday |

Funny there wasn't much opposition expressed when the NCD was first proposed over 3-1/2 years ago. It was in all the local papers back then. Just saying...
http://www.qvna.org/committees/ncd.htm EDIT: Longer ago than I thought. Next month will mark 4 years since the QV NCD was first proposed. http://www.preservationalliance.com/...-districts.php

I have had an eye on this for years as they have "mentioned" it in the Crier several times. The proposal has a rosy title, and the things that they "mentioned" in the Crier have been fairly unobjectionable. The proposal actually appears on the website, but you would be suprised at how many still people dont have a computer and even considering most do, many dont visit Queen Villages site. A month before this thing is going to happen, not one neighbor(as far as I know) has had the actual proposal stuck in their mailbox. Why hasnt this proposal been handed out as a supplement to the Crier. Many neighbors including myself and my entire block did not recieve the letter from City Council. As it turns out this proposal is only intended to affect alterations that require a building permit, but the language in the proposal (that many neighbors havent actually seen) does not actually say that. And honestly, I dont know what exactly requires a building permit. The point here is that many residents are confused about this thing. That is not the fault of the residents, that is the fault of the body driving this thing. They have put together a gray proposal and then made a half hearted effort to inform the public about it and are attempting to pass it in a way that is (although appearently not an uncommon practice) unfortunate. Specifically, that people who do not vote, because they were uniformed, uncaring or possibly out of the country have their lack of response counted as a yes. This entire project, that may have the best of intentions, has been carried out in a way that has left a lot to be desired, and as people start to figure out little pieces of information about it, they become nervous. If this proposal was given to each and every resident when it was completed and described in a way that removed all gray areas, we propbably wouldnt be in this position right now. Just saying. |
